Ark: Survival Ascendedhas plenty of awesome dinosaurs and animals, but they barely scratch the surface of the prehistoric creatures it could include. AlthoughArkincludes plenty of dinosaurs, it also has mythical creatures, technological dinosaur hybrids, and other non-prehistoric flora and fauna for players to contend with.
There are still many awesome dinosaurs out there that haven’t made it toArkbut probably should. From cow-sized sauropods to a more diverse marine life, these dinosaurs would be right at home inArk: Survival Ascended. In fact, many are available inArk: Survival Ascendedmods, some of which add new creatures, dinosaurs, and critters to the game. Many awesome dinosaurs, though, should officially become part of the main game.

10Arambourgiana Towered Over The Quetzal
Late Cretaceous Period
The Arambourgiana was a massive stork-like bird that stalked around what is currently known as Jordan during the Late Cretaceous era. It waseven larger than the Quetzalcoatlus, which does exist inArkas one of the largest flying creatures in the game. Instagram userrickcharlespaleoartcreated a dossier for the Arambourgiana, showing its role in the game if it were added toArk.
Ark: Survival Ascended - Best Cross-Platform Mods For February 2025
These cross-platform mods are the best for Ark: Survival Ascended, and will make the game a lot more fun to play regardless of platform.
If implemented, the huge bird-like dinosaur would be a carrion-eater and therefore immune to tranquilizer darts, feasting instead on rotten meat, according to the mock dossier. This would require players to get creative in how they tame the large creature. It would alsoserve as an excellent flying base that,if equipped with a bomb saddle, would be a force to be reckoned with both from the wilderness and fellow players' bases.

9Magyarosaurus Was Powerful Despite Its Size
Sauropods were the largest dinosaurs and largest land animals, in general, to have ever walked the earth. The Magyarosaurus was an anomaly among the sauropods, having a relatively small stature compared to its siblings. As basically a dwarf Titanosaurus, the Magyarosaurus dinosaur was the smallest of the sauropods, being just a bit bigger than a human with its neck up but with a “cow-sized” body. The long-necked dinosaur once lived in current-day Romania and managed to survive in a hostile environment by having an unusually thick hide and strength not normally associated with herbivores.
Being smaller sauropods would give Magyarosaurus an advantage when it comes to work on the base, as there would be no danger of the creature flattening anything (or anyone). The creature would beespecially useful in farming thanks to its strong staturebut would also serve as a line of defense against invaders in a pinch, being surprisingly effective in fights against much larger dinosaurs. It’s already included in the Roblox gameDinosaur World Mobile, and it would make a fine addition toArkas well.

8Thalattosaurs Could Follow Players Onto Land
Middle To Late Triassic Period
Although the Thalattosaur’s name means “sea-lizard,” it was so much more. The creature was asight to behold with its crocodile-like body and flattened raccoon-like tail. The marine predator was in a unique position to hunt both in the water and on land, according to a recent discovery shared onSci News. The animal’s tail acted like a rudder while its strong limbs enabled it to come onto solid ground, though it couldn’t move as quickly out of the water.
This adaptation would make the Thalat a serious threat toArkadventurers, made even more dangerous by its terrifying 13-foot length. According to the article, this reptile was able to move through the water like a “modern-day otter,” so players would have to watch their backs in the water with the knowledge thateven the shore wouldn’t save them from their pursuers.

7Herrerasaurus Are Like Poisonous Raptors
Late Triassic Period
Herrerasaurus is one of the earliest-known dinosaurs, and it was named “Herrera’s Lizard” after the rancher who discovered it in South America in 1958. During its heyday, the Herrera was amighty bipedal carnivore with strong hind legs that hinted at an impressive running speed.InArk: Survival Ascended, the creature would fit right in as alarger and even faster version of the Raptorthat already exists in the base game.
10 Worst Ark: Survival Ascended Dinos & Creatures You Shouldn’t Bother Taming
There are some dinos in Ark: Survival Ascended that you can leave alone entirely and yet do even better in the game than if you tamed them.
The Herrera is a fan-favorite dino from theAdditional Creaturesmod thanks to one additional feature it possesses in the mod: a venomous bite. The dinosaur is also larger and stronger than other dinosaurs of its kind, andits bite packs a poisonous punchthat makes it a desirable ally in battle and a feared foe to encounter in the wild. The mod takes things a step further and turns the Herrerasaurus’s venom into an easy means of farming narcotics, making it an especially useful potential addition toArk: Survival Ascended.

6Anomalocaris Were Shrimp-Like Apex Predator
Cambrian Period
The shrimp-like Anomalocaris lived for a very short time during the Cambrian era, but they left an important mark on history. They may have been small, at just over a foot in length (excluding their tails and appendages), but they were one of the largest creatures of their time. They’re alsoone of the earliest examples scientists have found of an apex predator,asRaptor Chatterexplains in a YouTube video, and had an almost alien-like when they swam due to the many side-flaps moving in sequence.
Anomalocaris would add somemuch-needed variety to marine lifeinArk,reminding players to be wary of even the smaller creatures in the water. The arthropod could use its front appendages to grasp thingsand had a mouth strong enough to penetrate hard exoskeletons, which would also make the animal a handy tame to keep on hand for gathering and fighting.

5Ubirajara Would Make A Great Shoulder Pet
Early Cretaceous Period
Not all dinosaurs inArkneed to be good workers or powerful fighters. Some just look cool perched atop the explorer’s shoulder as they embark on their journey. The Ubirajara would be theperfect shoulder petif it were added to the game. At just three feet in length, the bird-like creature stood perched atop two feet, witha small dino-like body and a long curved tail covered in a mane of feather-like fur.
The most interesting thing about the Ubirajara, though, was the array of four spikes that stuck out from the sides of its body. Research indicates that these odd spikes could be vibrated to make noise, like a very early prototype of the bird-of-paradise, as explained byDeadAliveinHDon YouTube. These vibrating spikes could be a potential new ability, allowing the Ubirajara to make a noise to alert its ownerswhen danger is nearby, for instance. If that weren’t cool enough, the creature should be added for its awesome name, Ubirajara jubatus, which means “Lord of the Spear.”

4Stethacanthus Is Perfect For Aquatic Bases
Late Devonian To Late Carboniferous Period
The shark-like Stethacanthus was not the biggest marine predator, measuring anywhere between 5 and 10 feet long. (In comparison, today’s great white shark can grow up to 18 feet in length!). What made the Stethacanthus stand out was itsanvil-like dorsal fin, which scientists speculate was used for mating displays or defense. The Stethacanthus was included in the now-discontinuedArk: Jurassic Parkexpansion mod, but thetaming process of the large creaturecan still be watched thanks toSyntacon YouTube.
The Stethacanthus would have been a slow-moving shark thanks to the fur-like patches of spines on its head and fin, and it was likely a bottom-dweller. If it were included inArk,it could potentiallyslowly approach unsuspecting divers, making for one terrifying experience. When tamed, the flat-topped dorsal fin might make for a good multi-person saddle on this slow-moving but powerful potential marine mount.

3Moa Is Like A Dodo You Can Ride
Late Pleistocene-Holocene Period
Not everything inArk: Survival Ascendedwants to kill the player. In fact, many of the island’s inhabitants arenon-aggressive creatures that peacefully coexist with adventurers. One of the most iconicArkcreatures, in fact, isn’t a dinosaur, but thenow-extinct flightless dodo bird. These friendly little birds can be found all over the island, acting somewhat like the pigeons of theArkworld.
The Moa is another flightless bird that would be right at home inArk,and it shares a similar fate to the Dodo. Different species of Moa lived in New Zealand, varying from the size of a turkey to 12-foot-tall birdsresembling the modern-day emu or ostrich. Records show that Moa were domesticated in real life, so it would make sense forArkplayers to be able to tame them and perhaps ride the larger species as mounts.

10 Ark: Survival Ascended Dinos Most People Ignore, But Shouldn’t
With so many dinosaurs and creatures to choose from in Ark: Survival Ascended, it’s no surprise that these dinosaurs are so often overlooked.
Unfortunately, the Moa eventually went extinct due to overhunting just like the Dodo, but it could live on inArk,as suggested bycaptainfatdogon Survive The Ark. The Moa also appears in the Roblox gameFeather Family, givingArkplayers a chance to see what the flightless bird might look like if it were added to the game.
2Gorgonopsid Would Be The Bloodhound Of Ark
Middle to the Upper Permian Period
Although it was named after the mythological Greek Gorgon, the Gorgonopsid was a very real proto-mammal that existed before the dinosaurs. Appearingsomewhat dog- or bear-like in stature, the animal was related toArk’sPurlovia and was originally supposed to be part of the game before being scrapped for unknown reasons.
Gorgonopsid was a popular option in aCreature Submissions conteston the Survive the Ark forum, submitted byScanova. According to the submission, the animal would make an excellent tracker, allowing players to find their flying mounts if they have an adventure mishap. They would also be able to track down high-level tames and other useful items and creatures with their powerful sense of smell. A fan-made dossier was also created byGuardianangel93on Reddit, as the Gorgonopsid is a popular option that’s been suggested several times in the past.
1Shringasaurus Would Be A Useful Base Destroyer And Builder
Middle Triassic Period
The Shringasaurus was a horned lizard that existed before dinosaurs, sporting two forward-facing horns on its head and a thick long neck. Despite its tough appearance, was a herbivore. It most likely graced peacefully using its long neck to reach higher than most other animals of the time, acting as a precursor to sauropods, according to the informative video byRaptor Rexon YouTube.
Katanaguy44submitted the animal on the Survive The Ark forum, calling it the adventurer’s “construction buddy and bulldozer.” If integrated into the game, the animal would be able to use its horns to take down structures or its strength to help build them. The Shringasaurus' design already looks like it would fit right in with other creatures and dinosaurs inArk: Survival Ascended.
