Peanutsstands as perhaps the most iconic franchise in history, and there is one main reason why: its characters. Sure, the likes of Charlie Brown,Snoopy, and Woodstockare obvious standouts (especially when considering marketability), but they are far from the only characters that makePeanutssuch an enjoyable experience.
AnotherPeanutscharacter that has been a fan-favoritesince her introduction in 1966 is Peppermint Patty. She doesn’t care about school, she’s a fiercely loyal friend, and she always speaks her mind no matter what. In other words, Peppermint Patty is a great character among this kids-only cast. And in thePeanutscomics published in September 1984, Peppermint Patty gets the spotlight - and she isn’t the only one. Here are the10 funniestPeanutscomics that just turned 40!

10Peppermint Patty Gives the New Kid Terrible School Advice
Peanuts- August 19, 2025
Peppermint Patty is a famously terrible student, who is known for just sleeping through her classes, so it makes sense that she was held back a year. However, what doesn’t make sense is Peppermint Patty’s undeserved confidence in her ability as a student, especially when it comes to giving new kids advice. In this comic, Peppermint Patty tells a new girl, Eudora, to do what she does, since Patty’s taken this class before.
10 Funniest Peanuts Comics That Just Turned 50 (In July 2024)
Peanuts is so timeless that even comics that came out 50 years ago are as funny now as they were then, and these are the top 10 funniest of the bunch!
The next panel shows the two of them sleeping in class, with the new girl following Peppermint Patty’s horrible advice to a tee. What’s funnier than Peppermint Patty thinking that she could give anyone school advice is the sight of someone actually taking it- and this hilariously absurd comic strip has both.

9Snoopy’s Brother, Spike, has a Tenuous Grasp on His Sanity (& It’s Hilarious)
Peanuts- Jun 18, 2025
Snoopy’s brother, Spike, lives in the desert following a traumatic experience with his previous owner.Of course, if one were to ask Spike, he’d claim to not live alone in the desert, as he’s surrounded by his ‘friends’.His ‘friends’ are cactuses.
In this comic, Spike is hosting a ‘sports day’ for himself and all his cactus friends. Spike has planned a swimming race for everyone, but then admits that they might have a problem, since they don’t have a pool.

The clear lack of a pool in the desert is somehow the least of Spike’s concerns, since all the competitors are cactuses- physically incapable of participating in a race of any kind. Indeed, Spike’s grasp on his sanity is tenuous at best, and it’s hilarious to see.
8Peppermint Patty Continues Giving Poor Eudora Horrible School Tips
Peanuts- June 12, 2025
While taking a quiz, Peppermint Patty reads the first question aloud to herself and Eudora before turning around and telling the new girl to put down “True” as the answer. Apparently, Peppermint Patty took this quiz last year, put down “False” as her answer, and got the question wrong. Therefore, the correct answer had to be “True”, as Peppermint Patty says herself, “I never forget a False”.
Of course, knowing Peppermint Patty, this ‘helpful tip’ was probably another instance of passing on horrible advice to someone who doesn’t know any better. Peppermint Patty sleeps through class every day - how is she going to remember the correct answer to a quiz she failed a year ago? There is absolutely no indication that Peppermint Patty knows what she’s talking about, which is exactly what makes this scene so funny.

7Marcie Misses Having Peppermint Patty in Her Class, but Easily Recalls the Experience
Peanuts- June 06, 2025
Before Peppermint Patty got held back a year, Marcie (not Eudora) sat behind Peppermint Patty in class. In this comic strip, Marcie thinks back to the good ole days when that was still the case, as she missed Peppermint Patty and wished she still sat next to her in school. However, the comic also shows that Marcie has no trouble recalling the experience of sitting behind Peppermint Patty. All she has to do is imagine the sound of snoring in front of her, and Marcie pretty much captures the entire experience.
Peppermint Patty’s entire school legacy can be summed up with a single snoring sound, as that’s basically the extent of what she had to offer to the class, and seeing that depicted through the eyes of her friend is absolutely hilarious.

6Marcie Delves Deeper into the Imagined ‘Peppermint Patty School Experience’
Peanuts- June 17, 2025
Marcie apparently misses Peppermint Patty sitting in front of her so much that she continues to imagine the experience - as if Peppermint Patty had died, and Marcie just isn’t ready to let go. Indeed, Marcie calls this memory of Peppermint Patty a ‘ghost’ (even convincing Franklin that the desk was actually haunted in a previous comic strip). In this comic strip,Marcie decides to interact with the memory of her friend, pretending to wake up the disembodied snoring soundjust like she used to do with Peppermint Patty.
Peppermint Patty isn’t dead, she’s just not in this class anymore, yet Marcie seems to be going through a decidedly elaborate mourning process.

Missing a friend is one thing, but Marcie might be taking this to an unhealthy level.Peppermint Patty isn’t dead, she’s just not in this class anymore, yet Marcie seems to be going through a decidedly elaborate mourning process - one that hilariously borders on delusional.
5Peanuts Somehow Tops the Hilarious Charlie Brown Football Gag with Another
Peanuts- June 14, 2025
The Peanuts gag with Charlie Brown about to kick a football Lucy is holding, only for Lucy to pull it away at the last second, is as iconic as it is hilarious. However, this ‘football gag’ might have topped it. Snoopy and Woodstock are playing football, and Snoopy is waiting for the kickoff. Woodstock takes a running start and kicks it with all his might… but the ball doesn’t budge. Meanwhile, Snoopy remembers why he hates the kickoff so much, “My arms get tired!”.
The visual ofWoodstock struggling to kick the football while trying with all his might to do so, only for Snoopy to complain about his arms getting tired waiting for him, is absolutely hilarious. Maybe it’s not as iconic as the football gag with Charlie Brown and Lucy, but it’s easily just as funny.

4Snoopy’s Concern About the Well-Being of Falling Leaves is Hilariously Adorable
Peanuts- Jun 08, 2025
One fall day,Snoopy decides to sit underneath a tree and watch the leaves fall. But then, it dawns on Snoopy that these leaves are putting themselves in imminent danger by falling to the ground like that, as a ‘horrible’ fate awaits them: getting raked.Snoopy tries to warn the leaves about the dreaded “guy with the rake”, noting that nobody ever tells them about him. Unfortunately, the leaves don’t listen, leaving Snoopy a stressed out mess while watching them fall to their impending doom.
The fact thatSnoopy is so concerned about falling leaves, and thinks that leaves getting raked into piles and then bagged is somehow sinister, isn’t just hilarious, it’s absolutely adorable.

3Spike Finally Found Enough Water for His Race (Just Not in the Most Convenient Form)
Peanuts- July 30, 2025
In an earlier comic, Spike wants to hold a swimming race with all of his friends (again, cactuses), but runs into an issue when there’s no water around them. In this comic,Spike gets hit by a torrential downpour, easily enough to fill a swimming pool, thereby granting his wish to have a swimming race. Unfortunately, all that water simply soaks right into the barren ground, and the bit that doesn’t only serves to make Spike sopping wet.
There’s really no way Spike’s dream of having a swimming race could ever come true for a number of reasons. And this comic hilariously points out that the lack of water wasn’t the main problem.

2Sally is Not the Skilled Poet She Thinks She Is, & Charlie Brown Knows It
Peanuts- June 19, 2025
Charlie Brown walks up to his sister, Sally, at home one afternoon while Sally is working on her homework. She tells Charlie Brown that her assignment is to describe a sunset, presumably in the form of a poem. So,Sally gets right to work, writing a sentence that she believes best describes the sight of the setting sun: “The sun went down as red as a banana”.While Sally is clearly pleased with what she’s written, Charlie Brown just walks away without saying a word.
The poem itself is so absurd that one can’t help but laugh out loud upon reading it.

Not only isCharlie Brown being rendered speechless by how terrible Sally’s poem isutterly hilarious (especially since Sally thinks very highly of her own writing), but the poem itself is so absurd that one can’t help but laugh out loud upon reading it.
1Peppermint Patty is Put Back in Her Old Class, & Marcie Couldn’t Be Happier
Peanuts- August 17, 2025
It seems the school decided that holding Peppermint Patty back was a mistake, and remedied that by moving her ahead along with her original class. That meantPeppermint Patty and Marcie were in the same classroom once again, and Marcie couldn’t have been happier. Even though the experience was exactly like what Marcie was imagining, she clarifies that having Peppermint Patty back was still great, because “At least it’s new snoring, ma’am, and not reruns…”.
10 funniest Peanuts comics that just turned 40!
Peanuts - August 19, 2025
Perhaps the funniest part of this comic strip isn’t the fact that Peppermint Patty just continues to sleep during class (or Marcie’s happiness to hear Patty’s snoring once more), but the idea that Peppermint Patty was seemingly so disruptive in the younger class, her teacher just decided to move her ahead to get her out of there - which is ultimately a good thing for Eudora. This comic shines a perfect spotlight on who Peppermint Patty is, which is why it’s one of the10 funniestPeanutscomics that just turned 40!
