In the grim darkness of the far future, players will need to use every deadly weapon at their disposal to survive inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2,but some of the most iconic options in the franchise are notably absent. While some weapons will likely be tied to future class releases, like the Librarian’s force weapons, there’s still a wide arsenal to choose from in future DLC. From brand-new weapon archetypes to unique variations of existing weapons, players have a lot to look forward to in future content updates.

WithSpace Marine 2’s recent content updateadding its very first new weapon, the Volkite Pistol, many fans have already started speculating about what weapons will come next. The 40k universe is filled with exciting and unique weaponry of all kinds, but the pool of relevant options is somewhat limited bySpace Marine’slore. Despite these limitations, there’s still a plethora of exciting weapons that have a decent chance to make the cut in the upcoming DLC forSpace Marine 2.

10The Armor Penetrating Lascannon

A Powerful Option For Taking Down Larger Enemies

Lascannons are one of the most powerful single-shot weapons a Space Marine can wield, being an incredible anti-tank weapon that can penetrate virtually any material. Used eitherstationary by the Imperial Guardor carried by a hulking Space Marine,Lascannons are an incredibly deadly force on the battlefield when used with the appropriate support. On top of their cumbersome size, Lascannons also requiresignificant power to charge, and as a result, they need to be reloaded after every devastating blast.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Lethal Difficulty and New PvE Operation: Termination, Explained

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is getting a lot of free content, including a new Operation called Termination and a Lethal difficulty.

With how heavy and powerful these weapons are,it’s unlikely they will be handed out to any ofSpace Marine 2’s classes as a primary weapon, but they could still have appeared as a temporary pickup during the campaign. The Lascannon could also be implemented as a charged ability for a future class, allowing players to let loose an incredibly devastating blast, with a lengthy cooldown in-between shots. While it may be difficult to balance, there are plenty of ways this iconic weapon could be included in futureSpace Marine 2DLC, even as a one-time use during an operation.

9The Close Quarters Astartes Assault Shotgun

Sometimes The Simplest Option Is The Most Effective

While shotguns aren’t the most common or effective weapon in a Space Marine’s arsenal, they would make a great addition toSpace Marine 2. The Melta and Multi-Melta fill a similar niche for high-spreading close-range damage, but they still leave a lot to be desired. With the Melta’s limited ammo count and overall bulk, the Astartes Assault Shotgun would provide a unique alternative thanks to its quick speed and fast rate of fire.

With the Astartes Assault Shotgun primarily being used by Space Marines in scout roles, it would likely be usable by the Vanguard, Sniper, and potentially even Tactician classes.

The Assault Shotgun usable by the Astartes comes in two variations, with a semi-automatic and fully automatic version respectively. One way to make this already fun weapon even more versatile is allowing players to swap between a single shot slug or bursts of automatic fire. With theHeavy Bolter of the Heavy classalready having a similar feature, players could potentially swap the firing mode of the Astartes Assault Shotgun by aiming down sights.

8Incredibly Versatile Combi-Weapons

More Freedom During Combat Encounters

Given their incredible versatility, it makes sense that Combi-Weapons may be absent from the launch ofSpace Marine 2to encourage more frequent team-play dynamics in thegame’s challenging PvE operations. Despite this, the unique gameplay function of an all-purpose tool like the Combi-Weapons is a prospect too exciting to pass up.Combi-Weapons combine multiple functions of different weapon types into a single weapon chassis, allowing them to unleash even more firepower or attach unique weapons underneath.

Combi-Weapons have an even wider array of applications, from simply firing more Bolts to Grenades, Volkite, Melta, Plasma, or even Grav weapon functionality.

For applications inSpace Marine 2,it’s unlikely they would be added as a simple bolter extension, butthere’s plenty of potential for equipping additional Melta, Plasma, or even flamethrowing compatibility to existing Bolters. Those familiar with the existing Grenade Launcher equipped Bolter will already be used to the concept of Combi-Weapons, allowing players to swap between functions by simply zooming in their sights. Despite their versatility, the limited ammo capacity for Comb-Weapons means they wouldn’t overpower the value of specialized weapons like the Melta or Plasma Incinerator.

7Devastating Storm Bolters

For Players That Want To Get Closer To The Action

The Storm Bolter is another highly requested weapon fromWarhammer 40kfans, packing twice the firing power of a standard bolter. Thanks to the double-barreled design and capacity for a much larger magazine,Storm Bolters are capable of unleashing a fast-firing and consistent hail of projectiles at enemies. As Storm Bolters were present in the late game of the originalSpace Marine, many fans were shocked that it didn’t make areturn in the sequel, and for good reason.

Lord Calgar of the Ultramarines is notably seen using a pair of Boltstorm Gauntlets to devastating effect in the later chapters ofSpace Marine 2.

While it was introduced alongside stronger enemies that took longer to kill, the Storm Bolter was still an incredibly satisfying weapon to use in the firstSpace Marinegameand would be especially effective against dispatching hordes of Tyranids. If the developers wanted to take the Storm Bolter to the next level, they could also add the incredibly powerful Auto Boltstorm Gauntlets to the Heavy Class. Combining a Power-Fist and a Storm Bolter in one, this variation would add an incredible amount of close-ranged utility to the ranged Heavy class.

6The Electrifying Power Axe

One Of The Most Requested Melee Weapons

UnlikeSpace Marine 2’sever-popular Power Sword, the Power Axe is an even deadlier weapon on the battlefield, at the cost of being much less mobile. Most often used by Vanguard or Assault class Space Marines, this powerful weapon provides impactful strikes that fill the gap between the Power Sword’s nimble speed and the Thunder Hammer’s pure destructive power. Using the same energizing effect as the other Powered melee weapons, the Power Axe can easily slice through any foe, no matter how armored.

The Power Axe provides a balance between speed and impact, which could be used by Assault, Vanguard, and Bulwark class Ultramarines.

The Power Axe would fill a unique role inSpace Marine 2. It’s great at dispatching single targets or small groups of enemies, stunning them mid-combo with its tremendous striking capability. Due to the slow speed and cumbersome size of Power Axes, they’re often paired with shields on the battlefield, making them a fantastic tool forBulwark class Space Marineswaiting for the perfect moment to strike.

5Hacking And Slashing With The Chainaxe

Giving In To The Temptations Of Khorne

Given its association with the forces of Chaos, it’s not surprising the iconic Chainaxe isn’t seen used by Titus and his Ultramarines, but that doesn’t mean it still can’t be added. Thanks toSpace Marine 2’s success, there’s thepossibility of new factionslike the Khorne-Worshiping Chaos Marines in future updates, and they would be the primary users of this deadly weapon.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Weapons Nerf Reversal Proves It’s Already Learned From Helldivers 2’s Biggest Balancing Mistakes

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 saved itself from a PR nightmare thanks to the important lessons it learned from Helldivers 2’s failures.

WithSpace Marine 2’s Eternal War mode pitting Chaos and Ultramarines against each other, the Chainaxe would be the perfect weapon to add more unique personalities to each side, making the servants of Chaos feel more than just re-skinned versions of the existing classes.

One of the most notable users of the Chainaxe is the Daemon Prince and former Primarch Angron, who used to duel-wield two Chainaxes before falling under the influence of Chaos.

Similar to the Power Axe,the Chainaxe would provide a more substantial version of its thin-bladed counterpart, with a focus on slow but heavier slashes that could stun enemies or even knock them backwhile slowly slicing them to pieces. On top of the potential for new movements and varied combat with this gas-powered two-handed weapon, the finishers and parry attacks of the Chainaxe would be incredibly visceral and satisfying to use against Tyranid and Chaos forces alike.

4Burning Hordes With The Heavy Flamer

Letting Players Experience The Salamander’s Playstyle

With its twin-barreled exhaust and large carrying size, the Heavy Flamer is capable of unleashing walls of flames that turn anything caught in its wake to cinders, being especially effective against organic materials like the Tyranids. Many fans were disappointed to learn thatSpace Marine 2’s flame-belching Pyreblaster was only a temporary pickup rather than an equippable weapon. While it would function similarly to the existing Pyreblaster found in therespectably lengthy campaign mode, the Heavy Flamer’s inclusion would give it the chance to be used as a permanent weapon in the arsenal of the Heavy class.

How Much DLC Is Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Going To Get?

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has several paid DLCs and free updates planned for 2024 and 2025. Here’s what’s in store for the next year.

Given its similarities with the relationship between the temporary Multi-Melta and the unlockable Melta for the heavy class, the Heavy Flamer might have to be nerfed before it could be fully implemented. Even if players can’t unleash the flame-blasting weapon’s true potential, it would still be incredibly satisfying to use in both PvE to dispatch hordes of enemies. Not only would it be fantastic in the Operation matches, butthe Heavy Flamer would also provide a wholly unique weapon experience in the Eternal War mode, offering more variety to the standard pool of bolt and plasma weaponry.

3Decimating Obstacles With Grav Weaponry

Using The Forces Of Nature Against Enemies

Grav Guns are one of the more unique weapons in the arsenal of a Space Marine, which uses a beam of gravity particles to crush any target with overwhelming gravitational pressure. Not only can these weapons be used to painful effect, butthe bass-heavy sound and shockwave emitted from blasts of Grav-Weaponry would also be incredibly satisfying to beholdthanks toSpace Marine 2’s incredible level of detail. Given Grav-Weapons' traditional use in demolition, they could easily play into the story ofSpace Marine 2as equipment scavenged from the battlefield, being a remnant of the Adeptus Mechanicus' mining operations.

One of the best aspects of Grav-Weaponry is its untapped potential for the classes ofSpace Marine 2, ranging from the standard Grav-Gun, lightweight Grav-Pistol, and heavy-duty Grav-Cannon respectively. The unique green hue of Grav-Weaponry also helps them stand out from the blue Plasma Weapons already in the base game, packing a deadly punch for Chaos Marines or armored Tyranids alike. While Grav-Weapons would be an exciting addition for any class, the Grav-Cannon would be most useful to the heavy class as an extremely powerful long-ranged semi-automatic weapon, giving players more versatility in creating competitive Heavy Class builds.

2Close-Ranged Inferno Pistols

A Rare Weapon To Cut Through Any Armor

The Inferno pistol is an incredibly effective secondary weapon, being a one-handed version of the shotgun-like Melta already present inSpace Marine 2. Despite its compact size, the Inferno pistol’s pure power can stop a Chaos Terminator Marine in its tracksor even burn through thearmored hide of any Tyranid. While it sounds like an amazing sidearm for any Space Marine lucky enough to acquire one, they still have their drawbacks with a low ammo count and poor accuracy.

There’s One Huge Way Space Marine 2 Improved Over Its Predecessor

Space Marine 2 has proven to be everything fans wanted by evolving a number of key features from its predecessor, and this is seen in one notable way.

Unfortunately for players, this incredibly deadly weapon is extremely limited in the world ofWarhammer 40k,only gifted to the most elite members of certain Space Marine chapters, most notably the Blood Angels. While it’s not the most likely, there’s still hope for its addition to the game to be granted as a reward for the brave Ultramarines that took down countless threats during the game’s story.

1The Eviscerating Lightning Claws

Intimidating Enemies With These Powerful Gauntlets

Out of all the weapons inWarhammer 40,000, the Lightning Claws stood out as perhaps the most shocking melee absence at the launch ofSpace Marine 2.The Lightning Claws are a powered gauntlet with 3-5 razor-sharp blades poking out from the end, each of the razor-sharp blades being charged like a power sword to cleave through enemy bone and armor alike. Being incredibly unique in their design, lightning claws can be used dual-wielded or one-handed, allowing Space Marines to tear apart their foes with a flurrying barrage of slashes.

Compared to theother melee weapons available, the fast-striking Lightning claws would provide even more melee combat variety forSpace Marine 2. Most commonly used by Assault Marines or Heavy Terminators, the adamantium-bladed Claws would be incredibly fun to use inSpace Marine 2,and they seem like a particularly likely addition to future DLC.
