Jujutsu Kaisenhas become one of the most popular shonen anime in recent years with its manga by author and illustrator Gege Akutami. One of the main reasons as to why the anime became such a hit was because of its iconic characters, including Satoru Gojo, who is one of the main characters.Gojo stands out as a fan favoritenot only because he’s considered the strongest character in the series, but also for his likable, charismatic, and humorous personality.

Even though Gojo is one of the most popular characters in his series, he’s also well-known across the entire anime fandom, yet there are still some things fans may not know about him. The less well-known facts of Gojo’s background and personality are important to better understand who he is as a character.

10He Has No Hobbies

Gojo was the first sorcerer in centuries to be born with both theSix Eyes and the Limitless technique, two abilities that help solidify his reputation as the strongest sorcerer. Being born with such talent and ability makes it seem only natural that he excels in everything he does, except that he doesn’t care to have any hobbies.

Akutami stated that Gojo doesn’t have any hobbies because he is naturally good at everything he triesand that he’s too busy focusing on reshaping Jujutsu society that he doesn’t care to get too invested in anything else. For Gojo, it seems as if there would be no point in enjoying something if there’s no room for him to get better at it, so he focuses on the bigger goal he can attempt to fix.

9Why He Covers His Eyes

Gojo is known for his iconic blindfold, but many fans may not know why he wears it. The simple reason as to why he covers his eyes is because of his Six Eyes ability. His Six Eyes ability allows him to have extraordinary perception and the ability to see the flow of cursed energy, but it drains his energy nonetheless.

If he doesn’t wear a blindfold, he’ll tire out quickly. When he’s not fighting, he has his blindfold on, but when he is getting ready to fight, he takes his blindfold off to effectively utilize his Six Eyes abilities.

8He’s a Sagittarius

At the start of the series, Gojo is 28-29 years old. His birthday is December 7th, making him a Sagittarius. Much likeotherJujutsu Kaisencharacters and their Zodiac signs, Gojo embodies many characteristics of his sign. Sagittariuses are said to be boastful, blunt, passionate, and optimistic.

Gojo is overly confident in his abilities and reputation as the strongest sorcerer, as seen when he saidhe’d win in a fight with Sukuna. Additionally, he is brutally honest and unsympathetic towards people he considers his enemies. Although he shows traits of being prideful and insensitive at times, he is also very optimistic and playful, especially towards his students, as he believes in them when others don’t.

7He Has Two Theme Songs

Akutami has chosen theme songs for some of his characters that he feels best represent them. While not exactly a common practice for mangaka, it can lead to just a little bit of insight into how manga creators see their characters, and Akutami’s choices for Satoru Gojo did not disappoint in this regard. For Gojo, Akutami has chosen Asian Kung-Fu Generation’s “Into An Unseen Tomorrow” and Avicii’s “Shame on Me."

Both of these songs align well with Gojo’s character, as their upbeat and lively tempos reflect his vibrant personality well. Gojo is well known for his bombast and enthusiasm, making these songs and up-tempo rhythms fit Gojo quite well.

6His design was inspired by aNarutocharacter, but not the one most expect

When Jujutsu Kaisen began to air, fans noticed Gojo’s design was reminiscent of Kakashi Hatake fromNaruto. The two have many similarities, such as their spiky white hair, their blindfolds, and even the role they play as a sensei to their series' main trio. However, Akutami revealed that rather than taking inspiration from Kakashi, Gojo’s design was actually inspired by anotherNarutocharacter.

Akutami stated thatGojo was actually inspired by Tonbo Tobitake, a much lesser-knownNarutocharacter who appeared as one of the Chunin Exam proctors. Tonbo is seen to wear bandages over his head and upper face while also covering his eyes with a forehead protector. Similarly, Gojo has been seen to wear a mix of both. InJujutsu Kaisen 0, he wears bandages over his eyes, but when the series starts, he upgrades to sporting a black blindfold instead.

5He has no awareness of how Utahime feels about him

Despite Gojo’s intelligence at reading certain situations as a sorcerer, he isn’t the greatest at reading how others feel about him, and this especially applies when he’s with Utahime. Utahime is said to canonically hate Gojo, and it seems quite obvious from the few scenes the two share together. When speaking to or being around Gojo, Utahime always seems to be annoyed and angered.

Utahime’s annoyance with Gojo may be due to the fact that he teases her for being weak. She constantly reminds Gojo of how much she dislikes him, but he doesn’t take it seriously, likely due to the fact that he sees it as a playful friendship, completely unaware of the fact that Utahime genuinely can’t stand him. Though some fans have advocated for aromance between Utahime and Gojo, their relationship in the series is quite funny and shows how one of Gojo’s biggest faults is that he can often be unaware of how others are felling.

4He’s a Digimon Fan

Fans learn from Gojo’s backstory that he’s a fan ofDigimon. InJujutsu Kaisenchapter 66, Gojo and Geto are speaking with Masamichi Yaga about the mission ofescorting the Star Plasma Vessel to Master Tengen. Gojo compares the mission to specific Digimon characters, highlighting thathe’s a well-versedDigimonfan.

By referencing specific characters like Metal Greymon, Skull Greymon, and Koromon, he proves he’s more than just a casual fan of Digimon. This not only adds a fun pop-culture element to his character but also makes his character feel more relatable to viewers who are also fans of Digimon.

3What His Source of Stress Is

Even though Gojo often seems laid-back and carefree, his life is full of stress. One of the hardest things he’s had to face is the betrayal of his best friend, who turned against him and tried to create a world only for sorcerers. On top of that, he’s constantly fighting curses, which would be stressful for anyone, even the strongest sorcerer himself.

However, the thing that stresses Gojo the most is dealing with the higher-ups in Jujutsu society. They often interfere with his decisions and make it harder for him to do what he thinks is right. Their strict rules and constant involvement frustrate Gojo more than anything else, adding to the pressure he already feels.

2He Gave Himself A Sweet Tooth

The series nods to Gojo being a sweet tooth from time to time. Even in the second episode, Megumi judges him for making time to buy sweet souvenirs while people are dying. His love for sweets is a quirky trait that adds some humor to his otherwise serious role as the strongest sorcerer.

Gojo wasn’t always a sweet tooth; he developed a taste for sweets over time. He started eating sweets to stimulate his brain, but eventually grew to genuinely love them. Though Gojo has dealt with a great deal of difficult subjects in his life, there is certainly an air of childishness to the hero. His love of sweets really exemplifies that aspect of him, showing that despite his sometimes horrific power, there is a sort of sweetness at his core.

1He Doesn’t Like Drinking

Unlike his old friend and schoolmate, Shoko Ieiri, who is the heaviest drinker in the series, Gojo is the complete opposite. His least favorite food is listed as alcohol. The reason is unclear, but it’s safe to say he leans more towards the opposite tastes of his dislikes, such as sweets.

Gojo’s preference for sweets over alcohol adds an interesting layer to his personality. Despite his overwhelming power and serious responsibilities, his preference for sugary treats highlights his playful and humane side even more. There is also the element of his power. Someone as strong as Gojo always have to keep themselves in check to make sure they don’t accidentally hurt anyone else. Getting drunk could therefore risk Gojo losing control, which is why it makes sense that he’d abstain from alcohol.
