Peanutsisn’t just one of the most hilarious comic strips in history, complete with timelessly iconic characters likeCharlie Brown, it’s also one of the oldest. Created by Charles M. Schulz in 1950 (with new comics released until Schulz’s death in 2000),there are half a century’s worth ofPeanutscomics for fans to enjoy, and as of August 2024, an entire month’s worth of those strips have just turned 70.

In this batch ofPeanutscomics from August 1954, fans get to see some of the oldest depictions of Charlie Brown before he was a global icon. These days,Charlie Brown is greatly associated with holiday specials, animated movies, and even musicals. But, during his earliestPeanutsadventures, good ‘ole Charlie Brown was just a hapless kid who never seemed to catch a break - something that’s greatly highlighted in these comics in particular. Here are the15 funniestPeanutscomicsthat just turned 70!

15Snoopy Uses His Cold Nose to Prank Everyone in Town

Peanuts- August 14, 2025

It’s no secret that Snoopy enjoys the occasional practical joke at other people’s expense, asSnoopy regularly messes with Linus, Woodstock, and - of course - Charlie Brown. Even when Snoopy was depicted much more ‘dog-like’ (as opposed to his more modern, anthropomorphic form), he’s still just as much of a troublemaker as he is today. That much is proven true with this comic strip alone, asSnoopy pranks practically everyone in town by sneaking up behind them and touching them with his cold nose- and he is very proud of himself.

14Linus has Always Been More Advanced than Charlie Brown (& This Strip Proves It)

Peanuts- August 09, 2025

Linus is a smart kid who’s wise beyond his years, and this comic strip proves that’s always been the case. In the early days of Peanuts, Linus was depicted as a toddler, but that didn’t stop Charlie Brown from spending time with him. In this case, Chuck thinks it’d be fun to play a card game.

However, when Charlie Brown walks away,Linus stacks the cards into an intricate tower. This is a perfect example of his inherent intelligence, which has seemingly already surpassed that of Charlie Brown, even at Linus' young age.

13Charlie Brown Can’t Even Win in a Game of Pretend War

Peanuts- June 13, 2025

Charlie Brown is a notorious loser, and that’s not even being mean, he really does just lose a lot. Even in a game of pretend war, where all one has to do is imagine a better weapon than their opponent, Charlie Brown still loses. That much is clear when he sneaks up on Lucy and fires at her with an imaginary pistol, only for Lucy to fire back with imaginary dual-machine guns.Charlie Brown’s very imagination is mediocrecompared to his peers. For a kid, that’s a tough break, indeed.

12Even When He’s Right, Charlie Brown is Still Always Wrong

Peanuts- June 02, 2025

What’s even more hilarious than Charlie Brown always losing is the fact that even when he’s right, he’s still somehow always wrong. That’s put on full display in this comic strip, when Lucy asks Charlie Brown a math question. She asks him what zero times zero is, to which Chuck gives the correct answer of zero.Lucy all but calls Charlie Brown an idiot for giving her such a ‘ridiculous’ answer, saying, “It’s got to be something!”. Even when he’s trying to help, Charlie Brown just can’t catch a break.

11Schroeder Isn’t Just a Piano Prodigy, He’s a Legitimate Genius

Peanuts- August 22, 2025

Schroeder has been a prominent member of thePeanutsgang practically from the start, and his defining quality is that he’s a piano prodigy. However, Schroeder is much more than that, as highlighted in this comic strip. While playing in a sandbox, Schroeder starts to bake in the sun. So, rather than cutting his playtime short,Schroeder has the brilliant idea of building a mound of sand and relaxing in the shade it offers. It seems Schroeder is more than a ‘one-trick pony’, as he doesn’t just excel at playing piano, he’s a legitimate genius.

10Lucy Showing Off Her Dance Moves is Easily One of Peanuts’ Best Comics

Peanuts- August 02, 2025

While a series as extensive asPeanutsshould make it nearly impossible to name a single strip that could even be considered one of the greatest of all time, this comic proves that’s not so. The comic shows Patty and Violet gossiping about Lucy as she walks towards them, saying that Lucy’s parents put her in a dance class just to get rid of her.

When Lucy reaches them, they ask her to show them some dance moves, which she does in truly hilarious fashion. Then, Lucy admits that those moves “cost my dad twelve dollars”. From start to finish, this comic is pure gold, and easily one of the funniest inPeanutshistory.

9Lucy Establishes a Hilarious Trend with Linus

Peanuts- July 24, 2025

One day, while Linus is taking a classic impromptu toddler-nap, Lucy decides that it’s time for him to wake up. At first, Lucy speaks softly, trying to ease her baby brother awake. And then,Lucy screams right in Linus' ear, startling him awake to the point where he does a literal backflip.

Charles M. Schulz, the creator of “Peanuts,” received numerous prestigious awards, including two Reuben Awards, five Emmy Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

This is actually a trend inPeanutscomics, as Lucy has been screaming at Linus to wake up (which he does with a startled backflip) for years. This comic is an early example of this trend, but it’s far from the last time it happened.

8Pig-Pen Proves Once Again that He’s the Epitome of Self-Confidence

Peanuts- June 09, 2025

Ever sincePig-Pen was introduced inPeanutscanon, he’s been unshakably confident in who he is as a person. Pig-Pen is famously always dirty, and those around him have no problem telling him how disgusting they find him. But, Pig-Pen never lets that bother him, including in this comic, when Patty tells him that he’s literally always a mess, and Pig-Pen responds with, “I’m consistent!".He doesn’t care that people think he’s dirty, Pig-Pen loves who he is- truly the epitome of self-confidence.

7Charlie Brown is Proven Wrong Yet Again (This Time By Snoopy)

Peanuts- June 29, 2025

When Charlie Brown sees a rogue ball rolling past him, he recites an old saying, “a rolling ball is always followed by a running child”. However, mere moments later, Snoopy comes running after the ball, nearly running over Charlie Brown as he goes, and Chuck follows his previous comment with, “Almost always”.

Charlie Brown and Calvin Finally Meet in Adorable Peanuts/Calvin and Hobbes Mash-Up

A heartwarming piece of fanart by Adam Murphy has officially brought Calvin and Charlie Brown together, and it’s everything fans have ever wanted.

6Lucy’s Refusal to Believe Charlie Brown About Anything is Utterly Hilarious

Peanuts- June 24, 2025

Charlie Brown and Lucy are looking up at the clouds when Lucy sees an airplane flying overhead. She asks Charlie Brown what airplanes do when they encounter clouds, and Chuck tells her that they just fly right through them. Lucy laughs in Charlie Brown’s face upon hearing his answer, finding the idea that a plane could simply fly through clouds absurdly laughable. Like with the earlier math question, this comic shows thatLucy is totally incapable of believing anything Charlie Brown says, and it’s utterly hilarious.
