What This Means For The 1923 Season 2 Finale

The Yellowstone Spinoff’s Future Explained

Those who have kept up with the widerYellowstoneuniverse will know that the franchise isn’t a stranger to elongated finales. TheYellowstoneseries finale, for example, brought the flagship series to an end in December and was also close to two hours in length. This could be a sign that the upcoming1923season 2 finale is being positioned as the end of the show, but it could just as easily be compensating for this season’s reduced episode count.

The Sheridanverse Explained: Which Taylor Sheridan Shows Take Place In The Same Universe

Taylor Sheridan has multiple popular television series in addition to Yellowstone, making him one of the most prolific screenwriters in Hollywood.

1923season 3 hasn’t yet been confirmed, but season 2 has earned glowing reviews from critics, resulting in a rare 100% score onRotten Tomatoes. Season 2 has also been a major success in terms of viewership, with Paramount Global (viaDeadline) revealing earlier this month thatthe sophomore outing’s audience is outpacing season 1 by a whopping 56%. Purely from a numbers perspective, then, it seems likely that theYellowstonespinoff will continue after its elongated season 2 finale, at least as long as Ford, Mirren, and other key1923cast memberswant to return.

For one, the harsh winter weather featured in season 2 has created something of a stalemate between warring parties.

Sklenar previously toldTHRin May 2023 that1923season 2 was the second half of a two-part story. “I think of it as one piece—there’s just a split in the middle,” he told the publication. “It will conclude.” The story in season 2 so far, however, casts doubt on this. For one, the harsh winter weather featured in season 2 has created something of a stalemate between warring parties. This means characters like Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) and Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) haven’t been able to mobilize against the Duttons, potentially elongating the conflict into another season.

There Are Some Crucial Story Threads To Wrap Up

Warning! Spoilers ahead for 1923 season 2, episode 5.

1923season 2, episode 5, continued some key storylines that could end up playing a role in the finale. The search for Teonna, for example, if it doesn’t come to a head in episode 6, could certainly wrap up in violent fashion in the elongated final episode.Episode 5 ends with Pete (Jeremy Gauna) seemingly meeting his endafter a brief gun battle with Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane), and this could serve as some key motivation for Teonna, setting up a potentially violent showdown.

Pete was played in 1923 season 1 by actor Cole Brings Plenty, but the character had to be recast after Plenty’s tragic death in April 2024.

1923is a show with a large cast of characters, andthe elongated runtime will hopefully ensure that each one has their story wrapped up in a satisfying fashion. Teonna’s story has been a major focus this season, but a two-hour runtime should ensure that Jacob, Cara, Alexandra, and Spencer also get plenty of time to shine, with Spencer potentially finally making it home. It remains to be seen whether1923season 3 will happen, but audiences are evidently in for a feature-length conclusion to this latest outing next month.
