9-1-1star Ryan Guzman seemingly confirms that Eddie Diaz will be back in the 118.9-1-1season 8, episode 10, “Voices,” largely deals with the fallout from Maddie’s abduction at the hands of a twisted killer. But it also ends with an emotional farewell between Eddie (Guzman) and Buck (Oliver Stark), withGuzman’s character moving to Texas to reunite with his son Christopher(Gavin McHugh).

In a post-episode interview withTheWrap, Guzman seemingly confirms that Eddie’s time in Texas is temporary. At one point during the interview, he says: “We will be in Texas for a bit.The end goal is to get Eddie back to the 118, but we’ll see what happens.” The actor leaves just enough doubt in his response. However, when asked directly, Guzmandoesn’t deny that Eddie will try to convince Christopher to return to Los Angeles. Read his response below:

That’ll be the biggest obstacle for Eddie. As much as he would love to go back to the 118 and his life there, he is dealing with this new reality. Getting his son to pull up his roots again and replant him back in L.A. is going to be the hardest thing in the world.

Maddie is safe by the end of “Voices”, which is directed by Jennifer Lynch and written by Ted Griffin and Molly Savard. That leaves the weighty goodbye between Buck and Eddie to contend with.Buck hasn’t handled Eddie’s move in the best way, trying to sabotage it in9-1-1season 8, episode 9, but he eventually comes through. He agrees to take over Eddie’s lease, which helps to facilitate the move.

No One Has Left The 118 Just Yet

Even though the show has frequently teased the departure of a main actor, it hasn’t happened just yet. These stories tend to pop up in series as a way of shaking things up and evolving the storyline for the ensemble. To the credit of executive producer and showrunner Tim Minear, hegenerally hasn’t pretended that Eddie will remain in Texas.

It’s more a question of how Eddie returns to Los Angeles and to the 118 and what will happen when he does. One question could be what will be different with Buck as Eddie’s roommate when the return happens. It’s an open question of how things will change for Christopher, and that’s the interesting part in the likely renewed9-1-1season 9.
