Talk to Me is every bit about grief as it is about being haunted. To that end, the film explores loss and the empty space it leaves behind following the death of a loved one. Mia is not alright, and the thrill of seeking out the dead — regardless of how scary it can be — sounds exciting. It allows her to feel things beyond heartache; it even makes her feel alive. The film gently handles Mia’s feelings, affording her the space to delve into her grief, while also showcasing the consequences of everyone’s actions. By the time the film concludes, viewers will walk away astounded by what they’ve just witnessed. It’s treacherous, gruesome, and heartbreaking all at once.

What This Means For Talk To Me
The Movie’s Legacy Will Be Strong
The fact that the A24movie is still connecting with a wide audience two years after its original release shows that the it will have a lasting legacy that will potentially propel the success of theupcomingTalk to Me 2. The movie’s directors, Danny and Michael Philippou, also have a new horror movie coming out in May titledBring Her Back, whichcould benefit from their debut movie’s streaming resurgence. This is especially true because the Sally Hawkins-led movie boasts a similar premise, where two siblings' new foster mother participates in a strange ritual.
Bring Her Backalso stars Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, and Jonah Wren Phillips.
Itcould also have a similar effect on Sophie Wilde’s career. The breakout star has already followedTalk to Meby playing executive assistant Esme opposite Nicole Kidman in A24’s 2024 erotic dramaBabygirl, and she will also be starring opposite Tom Cruise, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons in the untitled 2026 Alejandro González Iñárritu movie. However, she won’t be playing another lead role until theupcoming video game adaptationWatch Dogs, in which she co-stars with Tom Blyth. This resurgence of interest in her horror movie could help remind viewers that she is a viable lead in the meantime.
Our Take On The Talk To Me Streaming Success
It Comes At The Perfect Time
Talk to Me’s Netflix success could also potentially act as a balm for the subgenre of A24 horror in general. Although there have always been ups and downs for the company, their recent horror output has had a particularly grim critical and commercial reception. This began with the 2024 release ofThe Front Room, which was met with nearly matching scores of 41% and 42% from critics and audiences respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, when it debuted that September, it earned the worst wide release opening weekend across the entire horror genre for the year up to that point.
The Front Roomwas the directorial debut of Max and Sam Eggers, the brothers of Robert Eggers.
This downward trend forA24continued when their Ayo Edibiri and John Malkovich-led horror-thrillerOpusdebuted in March 2025 with one of the worst wide release opening weekends across any genre throughout history, earning just $1.033 million in 1,764 theaters after earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of 42%. Their new movieDeath of a Unicornis performing slightly better with a 54% score and a $5.8 million debut, butthere is still significant room for improvement, and the Netflix performance ofTalk to Meat least keeps the subgenre afloat in the meantime.
