The Sims 4has added plenty of new content in the decade that it’s been out, but players wish the game would pay more attention to one particular feature. The game updates frequently, adding new expansions with items, skills, locations, and other new ways to play. However, one aspect of the game that’s been neglected over its 10 years of existence is the way Sims sound.
TheSimscommunity isclamoring for EA to release more voice packs for their Sims. “I’m begging for new voices,” says Sims player and Reddit userChihuahuapocalypse. In lieu of entirely new voices, the community wouldat least like some “new lines for existing voices,“they add. “I’m sick of hearing the same stuff!” Some players put hundreds of hours into their games, and hearing the same voices say the same lines over and over can become tedious pretty quickly, judging by the responses to the discussion.

Sims 4 Players Want More Variety In The Voice Packs For Their Sims
The Pitch Sliders Are Not Enough
The Sims 4has six types of voices:sweet, melodic, lilted, clear, warm, or brass. These voices can be adjusted for pitch to give each Sim a slightly different sounding voice, but it’s not quite enough. After 10 years of listening to the same six voice types, players are starting to get tired of them andwish there was more variety.
Tattoos Are Getting A Massive Overhaul In The Sims 4, But There’s One Key Feature Missing
The Business & Hobbies expansion for The Sims 4 introduced tattoo parlors. It’s a nice addition, but the expansion pack needed a bit more.
Sims 4players arebaffled that they haven’t gotten any new voices for their Sims yet, after all this time. This is especially surprising since EA frequently adds new free and paid content. Reddit userbwoah07_gp2thinks that it’s “hard to believe for all the things they add in base game, we’re still stuck with only 6 voices.” The lack of variety contributes to the game feeling stale, especially after playing it for a while.

Other Reddit users agree that although there are a lot of different Sims in the game, at their core they are very similar. The sliders, according to fans, don’t do much to alleviate the situation. Many fans believe thatchanging the pitch of the voices just makes them sound oddsince they’re essentially slowed-down or sped-up versions of the base voice type. RedditorDemdolanssays they’re not sure why EA went this route for voices, asking “did they really think anyone would want to HEAR this… for hours?”
The Walk Styles Feature Has Also Been Neglected
Many Fans Forget The Feature Even Exists
The voice type isn’t the only aspect ofThe Sims 4that has not been updated since it was first released in 2014. One more game aspect that has suffered a similar fate is the walk style, an often-overlooked feature meant toadd more personality to each Sim by changing the way they walk. There are currently 10 different kinds of walks that a Sim can have and only one was added in an update (the “creepy” walk style, introduced for Vampires).
AsThe Sims 4expands with new content, there are many possibilities to play around with voices and walks. New locations could bring Sims with different accents, older Sims could have their own voice packs and walking manners, and so much more. At the moment, manySims 4players admit to playing on mute because of the immersion-breaking nature of the repetitive voices, but maybe one day EA will add some much-needed new content in this neglected aspect of the game.
