In an irrevocable change, Xavier himself reveals his Omega status - part of a major reinvention the character is going through in Marvel’s new ‘From the Ashes’ era ofX-Mencomics.But why do some fans think that Marvel just made this change by accident?
InX-Men #13from Jed MacKay, Sean Parsons, Netho Diaz, Clayton Cowles and Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, theX-Men attempt to take down Xavier, who has broken out of prison to save his daughter, Xandra Neramani. Xavier battles fellow psychic Quentin Quire, aka Kid Omega. One of X-Men’s top-level telepaths and a long-acknowledged Omega-level mutant, Quentin finds himself up against an equal, asXavier declares himself an Omega-level telepath, claiming his experience will overcome the stalemate of their shared power level.
Ultimately, Quentin manages to come out ahead, revealing that he’s stored away a fragment of Xavier’s evil sister Cassandra Nova, surprising his former headmaster and bringing home the win. Nevertheless,this is the first time Marvel has officially declared Xavier an Omega-level mutant.

Indeed, this is such a surprise thatsomeX-Menfans are currently speculating that the move is a mistake on the part of the creative team, potentially the result of misremembering past stories, where Xavier’sskillas a telepath (but not his inherent power) were emphasized. Others believe thatX-Menis deliberately slackening the criteria for Omega-level mutants following the 2019-2024 Krakoan Era, which was notoriously strict about who qualified for the title.
