Chaos has come to the Third Dimension in the form ofthe Sixth-Dimensional threat Doom-Miteand when a hero is needed, the goofiest possible hero steps up in a moment I just absolutely love.
InBatman/Superman: World’s Finest #29by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Bat-Mite and Mr. Mxyzptlk travel the DC Universe and round up every magic user they can find to help them defeat Doom-Mite. The team returns and uses their combined magic to pull the Sixth Dimension out of Doom-Mite. Unfortunately,Doom-Mite starts to get a second wind. With no other option,Bat-Mite breaks from the pack and puts all his energy into a punch that knocks Doom-Mite back. The heroes pull all of the remaining time energy out of Doom-Mite, finally ending the bizarre villain’s reign of terror.
Bat-Mite Gets His Big Hero Moment by Defeating a Godlike Villain
Batman and Superman are used to odd threats coming to the DC Universe, but even they were blindsided by the arrival of Doom-Mite. After laying waste to the Fifth Dimension’s heroes, the Just-Us League, the Sixth-Dimensional threat ventured to Earth to find its greatest hero and created dozens of villainous imps to assist the world’s worst supervillains. While Clark and Bruce learned more about what Doom-Mite was, Jimmy Olsen helped defeat the mite army with assistance from Mxyzptlk. Unfortunately,Doom-Mite proved to be too powerful for Olsen or any one imp to handle by themselves.
I love Bat-Mite, but the truth is, he’s always been more of a goof than a hero. But this entire arc has been about proving one thing: For all the childish obsession, Bat-Mite embodies the spirit of the hero he stans. A Fifth-Dimensional imp hardly ever faces real life-or-death stakes, but he honestly could have died going up against Doom-Mite. But just like Batman, he dug deep and went headfirst into danger, concerned only with saving the day. As a fan of this little screwball,this is without a doubt the best moment in the forgotten Bat-Family member’s history.
Don’t Ever Forget Bat-Mite’s Place in the Bat-Family
It’s easy to want to overlook Bat-Mite’s role in Batman’s history since his over-the-top silliness doesn’t really fit the more realistic parts of the Dark Knight’s lore. But like it or not, you can’t ignore that Bat-Miteisa Bat-Family member nor should you forget that it was Bat-Mite who was willing to sacrifice himself to defeat Doom-Mite. Is Bat-Mite ridiculous? No doubt. But he’s just as heroic as anyone else in theBat-Familyand without him, who knows where the DC Universe would be had the imp not taken out Doom-Mite?
