Early in 2024, the gifted mangaka best known forAttack on Titanannounceda new collaborative one-shot mangathat has finally been given a 2025 release date. The project is a joint effort between Hajime Isayama and voice actorYuki Kaji, whose masterful portrayal of Eren Yeager was the result of close work with Isayama over the course ofAttack on Titan’s anime adaptation. Intended to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kaji’s voice acting career, the project features a character calledSoyogi Soyogi.
Hype has been building around the project for months. The one-shot was initially projected for publication in Fall 2024, a goal that wouldn’t be realized. Isayama and Kaji have had extremely high standards for the project, holding out for the perfect artist and crafting the story details with great care—details which, if nothing else, demonstrate the one-shot’s promise and potential. The Long-Awaited Isayama One-Shot Will Finally Reach Readers
A few key details surrounding the one-shot have solidified, perManga Mogura RE on X. Firstly, the working title ofSoyogi Fractalhas been confirmed, with the official title ofSoyogi Fractal: Official Spin-Off.Soyogi Fractal’s release is slated for the February 2025 issue ofBessatsu Shōnen Magazine, with anin-store date of June 21, 2025.
The peripheral details are the most interesting part of the announcement, however. It was already known that Isayama would be behind the storyboard, but it’s notable thathe’ll be handling the cover art as well. The artist, Noshigami Kai, appears to be a rookie—unsurprising, given that the artist was selected through a contest held by Isayama and Kaji. The full extent of Kaji’s involvement in the project is unclear, but given that Isayama and Kaji have worked closely in the past and have a tight partnership, he can be assumed to have had a significant hand.

Both Kaji And Isayama Have A Wealth Of Experience
For the uninitiated, Soyogi has very interesting origins. Kaji isn’t just known for voicing Eren Yeager; he’s also the voice of Koichi Hirose in the adaptation ofJojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, Melodias inSeven Deadly Sins, and beloved (albeit supporting) characters inDurarara!!,Black Butler, and countless other series. He has an immense tenure, andthe Soyogi AI voicebank project celebrating his broad character vocabulary was the spark for the one-shot.
Isayama, of course, has a tried-and-true reputation fromAttack on Titan, showing himself to be capable of writing sprawling narratives packed with subtlety and intrigue.Soyogi Fractalis one of the anime world’s best-kept secrets for 2025; with Isayama at the helm, the story will certainly be fantastic, yet so few seem to be aware of the project. If the one-shot does well, there’s a lot of potential for an offshoot ONA or even an anime based on it. Perhaps one of the more interesting things to see would be Kaji’s participation in such a project—it would certainly be fitting to rely on the voicebank instead.
