Taron Egerton’s latest action movie may have only just arrived on Netflix, but he has already addressed whether we would return for aCarry-Onsequel. Helmed byBlack AdamandJungle Cruisedirector Jaume Collet-Serra, the Netflix action movie sees Egerton as a young TSA agent who is blackmailed into allowing a dangerous piece of luggage onto a Christmas Eve flight. Egerton is also joined onscreen by his fellowCarry-Oncast membersJason Bateman (Ozark), Sofia Carson (Descendants), and Theo Rossi (The Penguin).

While appearing onToday, Egerton was asked if he would be interested in potentially returning forCarry-On 2. Suggesting that while he would “be open to it”, theKingsmanstar admitted thatit would require an “innovative, creative idea”to justify its creation. The actor also admitted that sequels work for theDie Hardfranchise, which has been a major comparison point forCarry-On, so it may be possible to see his new movie evolve into a franchise of its own. It’s kind of like an extraordinary set of circumstances, so I think it would need a really innovative, creative idea to feel like a worthy idea for a sequel. But yeah, why not.

What Taron Egerton’s Comments Mean For A Potential Carry-On Sequel

Egerton’s Ethan Kopek Would Need An Even More Compelling Scenario

Carry-On’sconnections with Bruce Willis’Die Hardhave been a major talking point in the film’s ongoing promotional efforts, which Egerton also elaborated on in his recentToday Showappearance. With the star suggesting that his new Netflix thriller could “absolutely” go on to become regarded as a Christmas movie in the same vein as the originalDie Hard,it is easy to see why commentators would also be keen to see whether it couldpotentially grow to spawn its own action franchisein a similar fashion.

Carry-On uses a deadly nerve agent as one of its major plot points, and here’s the history behind the real agent and how accurate the movie is.

Much as Egerton points out, however, any attempt at crafting aCarry-Onsequel would require a fresh idea that could top the compelling scenario his character finds himself in during the first movie. Unlike Willis’ John McLane, Egerton’sEthan Kopek is a far less self-assured protagonistwhose trials force him to embrace his inner strength and sense of agency. ByCarry-On’s conclusion, Kopek has evolved into a very different character than the one that viewers first meet, and that far more confident starting point could spell potential problems for crafting another convincing character journey.

Our Take On Where Carry-On 2 Could Take Egerton’s New Action Hero

The First Movie May Have Already Supplied The Perfect Catalyst

Currently boasting an 86% fresh rating on Review Aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, it would seem thatCarry-On’s appeal to the action-thriller tropes of yesteryear has already struck a chord with critics. However, if Netflix does decide to pursue a sequel, it may benecessary to place Egerton’s character in an even more devastating scenariothan the one forced upon him byBateman’s mysterious villain.

Much like Ethan’s concern for his girlfriend’s welfare in the first movie, a scenario that potentially endangers his infant child would instantly raise the necessary stakes and lay the groundwork for an equally compelling sequel.

However, with the originalCarry-On’sending seeing Ethan Kopek also taking on the role of fatherhood, the first movie may have already provided the ideal catalyst for a potential sequel.
