What The New Creature Commandos Trailer Reveals About The First DC Universe Show

A Thematically Fitting Intro For Gunn’s Franchise

One of the big takeaways fromtheCreature Commandostraileris the fact that Amanda Waller will be set on a new path. Despite the DC Universe being a reboot, parts of Amanda’s history are still being regarded as canon in this franchise,as her consequences fromPeacemakerseason 1 are directly setting up the reason she creates the Creature Commandos team. While not being a new Suicide Squad, per se, the footage confirms that the DCU will not be shying away from telling R-rated stories.

However, rather than focusing on villains and metahumans, the newestCreature Commandostrailer puts a bigger emphasis on this being more of an antihero-driven team. There is also a new focus on the supernatural and monster side of the new franchise, which is fitting given thatthe DC Universe Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters"is all about those themes. With major villains like Circe also coming into the animated series, they are also tapping into the god aspect of the DC Universe.
