Among these original pitches was a low-budget road trip movie focused on Deadpool and Dopinder, aRashomon-style team-up movie with Wolverine, and one that included a dance number to Elton John’s “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues.“Deadpool & Wolverinewas the final product, but another of these original ideas would have been perfect for the MCU.

Deadpool & Wolverine’sdeleted scenes extravaganza would have also increased the potential for some excitingcameo appearances inDeadpool & Wolverine. Cameos from Fox’s previous Marvel movies were thrilling to see, andit was great to see Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan, Wunmi Mosaku’s B-15, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the Hulk pop up inDeadpool & Wolverine, but even more connections to the heroes and villains of the MCU were almost established. This would have madeDeadpool & Wolverineone of the most important MCU projects yet.

Deadpool’s Deleted Scenes Extravaganza Could Have Caused Some Confusion

The Connection Between Fox’s X-Men Franchise & The MCU Is Already Confusing

While it would have been fantastic to see all manner of MCU cameos inDeadpool & Wolverine, and a deleted scenes extravaganza could have brought Deadpool officially into the MCU, this would have also had downsides. Most notably, the connection between the disparate timelines of Fox’sX-Menfranchise and the MCU proper is already confusing, and a deleted scenes extravaganza would have only made this even worse. Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool began his career inFox’sX-Menfranchisewith no connections to the MCU, so it would have been strange to have seen these links inDeadpool & Wolverine.

Integrating Deadpool into the MCU’s history with a deleted scenes extravaganza would have made this impossible, impacting the future of the MCU, and makingDeadpool & Wolverinefar more convoluted than it needed to be.
