Of all the factions that can or will appear inDragon Age: The Veilguard, one controversial faction being around is for the best.Veilguardcontinues theDragon Agefranchise by putting the player, codenamed Rook, into a war between ancient deities vying for control of the realm.Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s new combatseems to be pushing the franchise in a new direction. Aspects ofInquisitionremain while continuing to adjust to a more modern gaming ecosystem.

As with everyDragon Agegame, the player will be joined by numerous companions throughout the story. There are currently seven known companions across the Rogue, Mage and Warrior classes. Even though only seven are confirmed for now, there are chances other companions, though likely in smaller roles, will pop up in the campaign.

Who The Grey Wardens Are In Dragon Age

The Supposed Saviors Fighting The Darkspawn

Grey Wardens are talented warriors recruited to fight the Darkspawn, essentially demons, of theDragon Ageuniverse. They have their own set hierarchy and have been a crucial part of the history of this beloved franchise. This is in large part to them being the only known way of ever beating back the Blight. However, this is where their controversy has been at the highest.

The most recent one takes place inInquisition, where the Grey Wardens planned/were tricked into using demon magic to combat the demons. Though the player character was able to stop them, it left a mark on the reputation of this faction. Along with that, a group that is supposed to stay out of politics often involves itself in it between blights to gain advantages. Mixing these facts with recruits that are not often the most honorable people have left this supposed heroic faction in a morally gray area.

It Wouldn’t Be A Dragon Age Game Without This Faction

Grey Wardens Are A Franchise Constant

Despite all the controversy, it would have been a bad idea to not include the Grey Wardens as one of thefactions inDragon Age: The Vielguard.A faction as entwined in the history ofDragon Ageas they would feel missed if left out without a proper ending. There even seems like a chance thatVeilguardis trying to redeem the Grey Wardens and bring them back into a more favorable light. This would take a monumental effort to rebuild their fractured reputation, but any step forward would be one for the benefit of the faction and franchise.

Do You Need To Play The Other Dragon Age Games Before The Veilguard?

The fourth entry in a series can be a daunting place to start, but Dragon Age: The Veilguard has many things that could draw people to it.

Even thoughDragon Age: The Vielguard’s early previewshave been good, the title is under a lot of pressure to perform well on release, and many features will play into its success or failure. The story, and how the Grey Wardens play into it, will be one of those parts. Even if they do not play a big part, it will be exciting to see what direction they are taking for the future of the franchise. All of these factors are why it just makes sense thatDragon Age: The Veilguardis bringing back the controversial Grey Wardens.
