Dragon Ball Daimahas chosen its setting as the Demon Realm, a previously mentioned but underutilized backdrop for the franchise. With Goku and company entirely unfamiliar with the new land, a tour guide of sorts is needed to lead them. And the series has chosen its best new character in years for the role;the native of the Third Demon World, Glorio.Yet to be clarified as either good or bad, the energy-pistol wielder has brought an element of mystery that keeps his character interesting.
From his introduction, Glorio has lingered in uncertainty. As suspected main antagonist, Gomah, watched highlights of the fight with Majin Buu on Earth from his First Demon World castle,Glorio observed from the shadows. Following the wish that turned the main cast into children, he touched down on Earth with the intent of enlisting help in taking Gomah down. And though Shin showed skepticism toward Glorio, Goku excitedly accepted the prospect of fighting someone strong.

The adventure that’s followed through the Third Demon World has wonderfullycaptured the original adventurous spirit ofDragon Ball. As Goku, Glorio, and Shin have made their way through the realm, the masterful world-building courtesy of the legendary Akira Toriyama has been on full display, and Glorio is a product of it. With more of his personality coming to light each week,Daimahas strongly benefited from its newest addition to the cast.
Glorio’s Mysterious Nature Has Kept Him Interesting
Little Is Still Known About Daima’s Newest Major Cast Member
Some of the best characters in anime are the mysterious ones, and thoughDragon Ballis home to some of shōnen’s most iconic fighters, few have had that distinct mystique to them. A notable one is Shin, who stepped into the story during the Buu Saga and raised alarms before revealing that he was the Supreme Kai. Before that revelation, however, because of the questions surrounding him, Shin was immediately a character that drew interest not only from the cast but the fanbase as well.
Glorio has a similar air about him, due to his ambiguity and resistance to answering any questions that might reveal too much. Though he claims to want nothing more than King Gomah’s demise,Daimahas not hesitated to show thatthere’s likely more to Glorio than it seems. He must be close enough to the evil King in order to have ever been in the castle, and has been shown to communicate with someone in secret during the group’s travels.

The likelihood thatGlorio is playing for both teams is extremely high, but the series has also gone out of its way to communicate that he can be courteous and stand up for others as well. He throws the first punch during the bar fight as a few demons begin interrogating Goku, and fights when Gomah’s guards threaten Panzy. Glorio’s moral ambiguity, along with his brooding nature and energy-pistol,liken him more to a character like Han Solothan anyone else in theDragon Balluniverse.
Glorio Brings a New Style of Combat to Dragon Ball
Dragon Ball Daimahas made it clear thatvery few in the Demon Realm can match Goku in hand-to-hand combat, though the demons that reside there have different abilities that can make them dangerous. Instead of using Ki like the warriors on Earth, they use magic. The extent of what their magic is capable of has yet to be fully explored. However, in the short fight sequence between him and Goku, Glorio uses it in a similar way to how any of the main cast would use energy.
Unfortunately for the mysterious demon, his magic stands no chance against a Super Saiyan Goku, even in his new, mini form. Nevertheless, Glorio’s style of fighting is unique, andunlike anythingDragon Ballhas ever seen in any of its anime series. Whether Glorio was using his full abilities in the fight against Goku remains to be seen, though there is always the chance that he was hiding his hand much as he has been throughout the series thus far.
