At the beginning of theDragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, players will be subjected to a complicated, lengthy quiz that determines their protagonist’s personality throughout the game. Personality doesn’t determine anything about the story, but rather informs your character’s stats. The personality they’re assigned with gives them a percentage-based boost to their strength, agility, vitality, intelligence, and luck - all stats that become vastly important later on, when dealing with the intricacies ofDragon Quest 3’s Vocation system.

However, this isn’t a run-of-the-mill personality quiz where each of your answers assigns points to one of multiple categories that’ll eventually add up to tell you, say, whichDragon Agecharacter you are. Instead,DQ3’s personality quiz functions more like a hiddenChoose Your Own Adventurenovel, in which each answer you give will skip ahead to a related question further down the line. At the end of it all, you’ll be dropped into a particular scenario pertaining to the answers you gave, your performance in which will determine your personality.

Do keep in mind that some personalities are limited by gender; for example, only heroines can be Vamps, which is arguably the best personality for its boost to all stats. And, if something goes wrong and you wish to change your personality later, it is possible to do so by finding and using certain in-game books. With that all in mind, though, you should have some idea of how the opening quiz works, and how it’ll affect your hero’s personality in theDragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
