It’s certainly exciting, but I’m still struggling to know what to expect from the upcoming blockbuster after how goodPuss in Boots: The Last Wishwas. Needless to say,Shrekchanged animated movies foreverand has since seen a collection of sequels in its wake. Admittedly,Shrek 2is my favorite film in the franchise, so I would argue this is where the main story peaks — withPuss in Boots 2being the first installment to meet the quality ofShrek 2.

I’d reason thatPuss in Boots 2saw such a good performance because the movie has a nostalgic charm that does not overshadow its simple yet compelling story and exceptionally likable characters.This movie charts a new course by deliberately avoiding the familiar territory of fairy tale tropes and offers each character the depth needed to explore their desires for the Wishing Star. Not to mention,Puss in Boots 2has a major advantage in terms of animation, where its more modern style garnered huge levels of acclaim, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

The Wolf (Wagner Moura) is the physical manifestation of death, and he is used sparingly throughout the film. However, his constant lurking and subtle presence effectively builds a very real sense of dread.
