Dragon Ball Daimais pitting Goku against one of the most powerful foes he’s ever had to face, and for once, the bold warrior is actually feeling a bit intimidated. Goku may not be frightened, per se, but the Tamagami’s strength is enough to make him cautious, and that’s noteworthy enough as it is.
Dragon Ball Daimahas set up Goku on a quest to battle and defeat the three Tamagami, incredibly powerful warriors who were created to guardthe Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls. Having heard rumors of deadly foes, Goku, of course, couldn’t help but want to challenge them, and it’s looking likeDaimaepisode #8 will finally see him showdown with the first of these guardians. However, his first meeting with the Tamagami had Goku actually realizing what he was in for, and in a rare moment of foresight, saw him panic a bit at the thought of going up against the creature and its massive weapon.

Goku’s Caution Regarding the Tamagami is Warranted
The Tamagami’s Weapon Makes It a Greater Threat Than Expected
In episode #7, Goku lays eyes on the Tamagami for the first time, and begins to understand how they’ve gone so long without ever being defeated. Tamagami Number Three, as it’s called, is shown to be wielding a colossal hammer, which Goku notes could easily crush him in his tiny body with a single swing.Typically, Goku’s eagerness for battle isn’t weighed down by the thought of what his opponent could potentially do to him, so it’s certainly unusual that this Tamagami would give him pause. Goku’s still Goku, however, and winds up challenging the Tamagami despite this threat (after a snack, that is).
The Tamagami are definitely a force that shouldn’t be underestimated. While they will respect an opponent’s surrender and cease attacking them, the challenger still needs to have the wherewithal to surrender before they’re killed. It’s said in the episode that even Dabura struggled against the Tamagami and was ultimately unable to defeat them, andDabura has the highest power level on record in the series. While Goku is arguably stronger than Dabura was at this point in his adult form, it’s not clear if that’s necessarily the case in his current Mini form.

It’s also quite rare inDragon Ballfor Goku to go up against opponents who use weapons; while weapons aren’t unheard of inDragon Ball, they’re mostly used by heroic characters, like Goku himself with the Power Pole, or Trunks and his sword. The Tamagami’s hammer itself seems to hint at its strategy, suggesting that it will rely on unstoppable force and overwhelming power to defeat opponents who challenge it. Getting hit by the hammer would be awful news for Goku, so his strategy is going to have to revolve around avoiding the Tamagami’s attacks and getting his attacks in wherever he can.
How Do the Tamagami Stack Up Against Buu?
The Tamagami May Surpass Goku’s Strongest Foe to Date
Much has been said about the Tamagami’s strength at this stage, but fans have yet to actually see these guardians in action. If they’re demonstrably stronger than Dabura, then the next most powerful foe to compare them to would be Majin Buu himself. Buu was substantially stronger than Dabura, able to turn him into a cookie and eat him with ease.Gomah certainly seemed terrified of Majin Buu, and was very intimidated at the thought of challenging the Tamagami as well, so that would seem to put them on roughly the same level.
The true extent of the Tamagami’s abilities is a mystery right now; from the preview for episode #8, it can be said that they’re very, very fast, even when wielding such a massive weapon. Since no onein the Demon Realmseems to be aware of Ki, it seems unlikely that the Tamagami would have much awareness of it, either, meaning they probably don’t have the capacity to perform Ki blasts and other energy attacks, which may be the edge that Goku needs to win. It is, however, possible that the Tamagami have some magical abilities at their disposal, which would make them highly unpredictable, just like Buu.

It’s also not quite clear what the Tamagami are at this stage. They appear robotic, or at least heavily armored, but it’s just as likely that they’re magically conjured creatures, created by the Namekian Neva. That would make them even more comparable to Majin Buu, who was similarly created by Bibidi. The true nature of the Tamagami may be quite important to defeating them, and it will be interesting to see if that information comes out during Goku’s fight with Tamagami Number Three.
Goku’s First Tamagami Battle Will Be Key to Defeating the Others
Goku’s Battle Against Number Three Will Be a Learning Experience
Tamagami Number Three may actually prove to be the most difficult for Goku to defeat, simply because he has no real context for what it’s capable of. If Goku can manage to defeat Number Three, he’ll be in a much better position to take on the other two, if only because he has a better idea of what they might throw at him. The Tamagami do seem to have slightly different capabilities, as each one wields a unique weapon, so the lessons from Number Three won’t perfectly translate. Still, though, seeing one of them in action will be an invaluable experience for challenging the other two.
As guardians for a set of Dragon Balls that have never been used, the Tamagami could easily prove to be the most difficult foes that Goku has faced at this point in his story, potentially even surpassing Majin Buu in terms of raw power. Just how powerful they are will only become apparent once Goku is locked in combat, and at that point there’s nothing much he can do but push through and win. One thing’s for sure, though: given the quality of fights inDragon Ball Daima, the fight with Tamagami Number Three will be one fans won’t want to miss.
