Wizards of the Coast has revealed the first Marvel-themedMagic: The Gatheringcards. Over the weekend at New York Comic-Con, Wizards revealed five Secret Lair drops featuring heroes from the Marvel universe. WhileMagicwill release multiple larger sets of Marvel cards starting in 2025, these new cards represent the first official cards of the new collaboration between the biggest comic book company in the world and the biggest card game in the world.

While these new cards are Universes Beyond cards (similar to recent setslikeMagic’sFalloutcollaboration), they will still be legal in mostMagic: The Gatheringformats. Each Secret Lair drop features a different hero with a mix of original cards and reprints from past sets with new art and titles.All five sets contain a legendary creature card version of their respective Marvel superhero, meaning that they can each be used in Commander, as well as Vintage and Legacy formats.

Since Commander recently saw some major shakeups, these new cards could provide a much-needed distraction for those who follow the format. These are limited edition Secret Lair drops, so they should be hot sellers and will likely sell out quickly. Those who spend over $199 will get the Earth’s Mightiest Emblem card, a reprint of Arcane Signet with art featuring Avengers Tower.

While only a 2/2, Black Panther comes with First Strike and also hasan ability that adds 1/1 tokens to one land card whenever a creature the player controls enters play. Wolverine is the best there is at dealing damage inMagic: The Gathering. Wolverine’s creature card deals out double damage, turning his 2/2 into a 4/2 right out of the gate. At the end of each turn, Wolverine gains another 1/1 counter if he dealt damage that turn,causing him to grow progressively stronger each time he attacks.

Wolverine also has Regeneration, which removes him from the battlefield when he would usually be destroyed. While Wolverine would usually lose all counters on him when Regeneration triggers, the Adamantium Bonding Tank card stores those counters and allows them to be put back into play the following turn.
