Despite primarily focusing on the US,The Walking Dead’soutbreak seems to have had a worldwide effect, with the franchise revealing some major details about the rest of the world throughout its tenure. Having run for 11 seasons, the original show never really deviated outside of America, opting to put the focus on the survivors and their attempts to rebuild society, rather than the origins ofThe Walking Dead’s zombie virus. Naturally, things like everyone being infected and how to properly kill the undead were established, but the full extent of the apocalypse remained a mystery for some time.

Thankfully,The Walking Dead’s spinoff showshelped expand the universe by providing some key information about how the virus started, alongside its global impact. Through shows likeWorld Beyond,Fear the Walking Dead, andDaryl Dixon, the franchise put the spotlight on other countries, highlighting how different parts of the world coped with zombies. Although the fate of many countries will likely remain a mystery forever, the universe shedding some light on locations outside America has been a breath of fresh air, andTWDhas given an indicator about which parts of the world handled the outbreak the best.

The CRM Believed That The Zombie Virus Was Completely Global

Of all the groups introduced toThe Walking Dead, the CRM arguably knows more about the rest of the world than anyone. Given the Civic Republic has the largest known community in the TV universe and is home to some of the greatest minds still alive, it’s no surprise they have conducted plenty of research about the apocalypse. WithThe Ones Who Liveputting a lot of emphasis on the Echelon briefing, the spinoff’s finale finally revealed theCRM’sWalking Deadplan, which involved wiping out other communities and taking their resources to keep humanity going for years to come.

Although Beale doesn’t go into detail about what his spies found out, the group’s decision to take drastic measures indicates they think the entire globe has fallen.

Major General Beale explained that people would run out of resources within 14 years based on CRM research, hence the group trying to create a single community that can keep going. The villain also claimed that theCRM had spies all over the world, but without finding a stable country to start rebuilding society, the only hope for a future is to eliminate everyone else so that the Civic Republic can be sustained. Although Beale doesn’t go into detail about what his spies found out, the group’s decision to take drastic measures indicates they think the entire globe has fallen.

From all the information the franchise has presented, the CRM is right about the virus spreading all throughout the world. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean every country has been completely overrun, despite the evidence Beale has acquired.

Mexico Was Overrun By Zombies At A Similar Time To The US

One of the first areas to get some attention outside the US inThe Walking Deaduniverse was Mexico, as parts ofFear the Walking Deadtook place within the country. After the outbreak, many of the show’s protagonists believed Mexico could offer a safe haven from the ongoing zombie threat, but unfortunately, the neighboring country wasn’t much better off.Despite the military’s attempt to stop the spread of the infection, it reached epidemic levels in Mexico at a similar time to the US, with the undead having a large presence and seemingly devastating the entire country.

8 Things The Walking Dead Has Revealed About The Rest Of The World After The Zombie Outbreak

The original Walking Dead show told its story predominantly in America, but the franchise has since expanded and revealed the virus' global impact.

It seems likely that the virus could have spread from San Diego after it was bombed, creating a knock-on effect that overwhelmed the public. Due to the country’s dense population, it didn’t take a long time for things to get out of control, with government intervention quickly becoming a thing of the past. While some communities rallied and created fairly safe locations, it didn’t produce any ofThe Walking Dead’s most secure settlements, prompting the protagonists to head back to the US, which confirms that Mexico was one of the hardest-hit locations by the zombie outbreak.

Daryl Dixon Showed What Happened To France

France is easily one of the most important locations in the entireWalking Deaduniverse, mainly because it’s where everything started.World Beyondsuggested that an experiment gone wrong in France led to the virus becoming airborne, subsequently spreading all across the world. What became of the country was left unclear by the show, butDaryl Dixonhelped uncover just how bad things got, and it was arguably worse than America. Alongside zombies killing a large part of the population, Pouvoir also took over France, meaning almost the entirety is ruled by a ruthless faction.

Daryl and Carol’s time in the country helped offer some resistance to the group and took down their leader; however, their strongest opposition ended up joining them, meaning things are seemingly worse than ever before. In addition,Daryl Dixon’s high volume of zombie variantsshows that walkers are an even bigger problem there than in most other countries we’ve seen in the series. Not only are there multiple dangerous types of the undead, but Pouvoir is actively making more variants, creating an incredibly dangerous location that even Daryl and Carol barely survived.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s third season will premiere in 2025.

Perhaps most interestingly,Daryl Dixonalso introduced Laurent, meaning the country may have produced a survivor with potential immunity. While things are still unclear, he could be the cure to the virus, assuming he really is immune. Overall,France is arguably in worse shape than anywhere elseThe Walking Deadhas shown so far, and while there is a sense of order alongside some hardened survivors, it seems nearly impossible for the country to ever return to how things were before.

The United Kingdom Is Supposedly Pretty Safe In The Walking Dead

Daryl Dixon’s Second Season Hinted At The UK Coping Better Than Most Places

The UK has yet to officially appear inThe Walking Deadoutside ofDaryl Dixonseason 3’s trailer, but there has been a suggestion that the country is relatively safe. DuringDaryl Dixonseason 2’s finale, a Scottish couple traveled with the protagonists towards the UK as Carol and Daryl looked for a way home to America. With the couple having traveled from the UK to France, they had firsthand knowledge of what the island was like, and they hinted at it being pretty secure with the army locking things down quickly, meaning it may be relatively safe.

Season 3’s trailer did show signs that the infection had taken its toll, suggesting things could have gotten worse after the Scottish duo left the country. However, it’s also possible Daryl and Carol will arrive in one of the more rundown areas of England, as despite supposedly dealing with the apocalypse fairly well, some places have likely still fallen. The spinoff’s impending return will presumably shed more light on exactly what happened in the UK and how it has adapted to the new world, but as of now, it appears to be one ofThe Walking Dead’s most protected locations.
