AsFinal Fantasy 14expands, the long-running MMORPG could crossover with the widely popularLeague of Legendsfranchise if the developers have anything to say about it. A lead developer expressed hopes for Riot Games, the studio behindLeague of Legends, to team up with Square Enix and find a way to bring the ongoing games together.
As spotted byPCGamesN,FF14lead battle content designer Masaki Nakagawa expressed his hopes for theLeague of Legendscrossover while promotingFF14’snew Dawntrail expansion. In an interview withGamesRadar+, Nakagawa discussed his dream crossovers forFF14and the collaborations he’d like to see.He talked about his love for playingLeague of Legendson his own and how having characters from each game appear in both games could be a personal dream come true.

As for other companies' titles, I personally love League of Legends and have been playing the game for a long time, so a crossover with them would be a dream come true. It would be great fun if Aatrox and Aurelion Sol were featured as raid bosses in FF14. It might also be quite interesting to have FF14 characters implemented as crossover champions in League of Legends! If a Riot Games representative is reading this, it would be an honor if I could speak with you!
Dream Crossover For Both Franchises Has Potential
FF14 And League of Legends Could Be A Natural Fit
FF14’sDawntrail expansion launched over the summer and brought along significant additions to the MMORPG.Screen Rant called the expansion a “must-play"calling its South American-inspired setting and lighter tone a breath of fresh air from more recent intense expansions. A part of the expansion is the new Echoes of Vana’diel Raid, which is itself a crossover with Square Enix’s original MMORPGFinal Fantasy 11.
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail - All Shaaloani Aether Current Locations
Attuning to all the Shaaloani Aether Currents will unlock your ability to fly in the Shaaloani region in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail.
The new raid has been praised by fans and critics for its challenging combat and thrilling multi-boss battles. Likewise,League of Legendsis known for its unique approach to gameplay and has encroached into combat-heavy games like thefighting game ZXKO.League of Legendsis also known for its approach to unique champions with their own fantasy inspirations, and could be a unique fit withFF14. As Nakagawa said, champions from the game could be easy fits for boss battles that are a key part of raids like in the Echoes of Vana’diel Raid.

Our Take: A Crossover With League of Legends Isn’t Without Precedent
FF14 Has Done Crossovers Outside of The Final Fantasy Franchise Before
In his interview, Nakagawa explained that theFinal Fantasy 14team wanted to crossover withFinal Fantasy 11as many of theFF14developers are fans of the originalFinal FantasyMMORPG. While the collaboration withFinal Fantasy 11was easy enough to pull off since it’s within Square Enix’s wheelhouse,aLeague of Legendscrossover would be more challenging, but it wouldn’t be without precedent.FF14has collaborated with the party gameFall Guystwice, the latest being theBlunderville eventthat includes Fall Guys-inspired cosmetics.
Fall GuysandLeague of Legendscouldn’t be more different, but the ability to crossover with franchises outside Square Enix’s library is possible. While there might be some heavy lifting to get Square Enix and Riot Games to agree to a deal, fans would surely love the chance to see what eager developers like Nakagawa could pull off. With celebrated gameplay and ever-expanding fan bases, the two franchises could be a perfect fit.
