WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Suits LA season 1, episode 5, “You’re On Your Own.”

Suits LAepisode 5 brought back one of my favorite aspects of the original show. FollowingGabriel Macht’s underwhelming return as Harvey in episode 4, we are all waiting for more of our favoriteSuitscharacter in the new show. That said,Suits LAshould be more than just cameos fromSuits, which is why I’m glad that episode 5 shifted the focus back to the new characters. Additionally,Suits LAepisode 5 actually felt like one of thegoodSuitsepisodes, combining character development with an interesting case.

WhileSuits LA’s standalone cases have been very disappointing so far, the broader storyline about Lester’s murder case has been fun to watch. Lester’s case escalated quickly in episode 5, which broughtSuits LAto the courtroom in a way that didn’t happen that often inSuits. It doesn’t seem like Ted Black will settle this before the trial, so we’ll probably spend a few more episodes with this storyline. Regardless, the scene in which Ted confronted Stuart about the transcripts hilariously referenced one of the most iconicrecurringSuitslines.

Suits LA Episode 5 Finally Used “What The Hell Did You Just Say To Me?

Suits Fans Know The Importance Of That Line

When Ted Black accused Stuart Lane of leaking the transcripts,Josh McDermitt’s character quickly responded with a powerful“What the hell did you just say to me?”While this would have been just a regular line in any other TV show,Suitsfans are more than used to hearing variations of“What did you just say to me”in this universe.Suitswas a very formulaic show in which the dialogue could get a little repetitive, and I’m pretty sure“What did you just say to me”was one of the most used expressions on the original show.

Suits LA Episode 5 Confirms Its True Harvey & Mike Replacement

Suits LA has been very different from Suits so far, but the spinoff already has its version of Harvey Specter and Mike Ross’ friendship.

The fact thatStuart used that line with such conviction inSuits LAepisode 5makes me think that the writers are aware of how popular that line has become with the fanbase.“He’s testifying,”“This deposition is over,”and“Get the hell out of my office”are some of the other recurringSuitsexpressions that defined the original show’s identity, but if there were to be a callback to that inSuits LA, I’m glad that“What the hell did you just say to me”was the one.

Suits LA Episode 5 Was The Best One So Far

More than using a famousSuitsexpression,Suits LAepisode 5 captured the essence of the original show by letting the story breathe and focusing on the things that matter.Suitshad its fair share of disappointing episodes, but it never failed to deliver some great arcs where both the characters and the cases they were working on were compelling.Suits LAhas yet to find that balance, but episode 5 is a promising first step.

Hopefully, the rest ofSuits LAseason 1 will be as strong as episode 5.

Suits LA’s Lester murder casehas never been more compelling than in episode 5 and should be even more fun now that Kevin has found out the truth about Ted’s client. The originalSuitsshined brighter whenever our characters were dealing with high-stakes situations, and while the “filler” cases could be entertaining, it was the overarching storylines that gave the show its best moments. Hopefully, the rest ofSuits LAseason 1 will be as strong as episode 5.
