Warning: Contains spoilers for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End chapter #135.One of the best charactersFrieren: Beyond Journey’s Endintroduced in season 1 wasSein, the resident priest of Frieren’s adventurer party. Sein came off as a natural fit for the group’s dynamic, and that made it all the more surprising whenhe left the story a few episodes later, a fact made even worse in the manga by how he’s been absent for nearly four years in real-time.
Sein’s absence fromFrieren: Beyond Journey’s Endhas been a major sticking point to some, but fortunately, that’s finally come to an end. The manga’s current arc involves Frieren, Fern, and Stark working with the Magic Association to prevent the Empire from assassinating Serie during her stay in the capital, and in a surprise turn of events,Frieren: Beyond Journey’s Endchapter #135 revealed that Sein is also in the capitalas he continues looking for his friend, Gorilla Warrior. It’s a welcome return for such a fan-favorite character, and ideally, it won’t just be temporary.

Sein Was One of the Best Characters in Frieren Season 1
Fans Appreciated Sein For His Dynamic With Frieren and the Other Members of the Party
Sein was one of the highlights ofthe critically acclaimed first season ofFrieren. As another adult character, Sein could stand on more equal footing with Frieren than Fern and Stark, but at the same time, his sillier and more down-to-earth personality worked as a perfect balance to Frieren’s stoicism. Sein was such a great addition toFrieren: Beyond Journey’s Endforhow well he rounded out the cast in terms of power and personality, and that’s bound to become even more apparent with his return.
Fans Wanted To See More Of Sein, & He’s Finally Back In The Manga
Sein’s return to the manga was something fans had been wanting for years, and there’s already plenty being done to justify it. In chapter #135, as Frieren’s group ran from the Shadow Warriors, a poison arrow shot Stark, and with Frieren and Fern unable to properly deal with poisonings,Sein’s return toFrieren: Beyond Journey’s Endwill likely begin with him having to save Stark from dying from the poison. Saving Stark was also the first thing Sein did for the party, so it would also work as a nice callback to his debut.
Another way for Sein’s return to go is by tying the current story to his search for Gorilla Warrior. Many of the Shadow Warriors have codenames referencing animals, and with the odd way Rasen reacted to Sein whenever he talked about Gorilla Warrior,Frieren: Beyond Journey’s Endcould be setting up a reveal that Gorilla Warrior is one of the Shadow Warriors.

Unfortunately for anime fans, Sein will not appear inthe much-anticipated second season ofFrieren, as there is still a lot of manga material to adapt before his return. Still, fans who liked the series so much that they dived into the manga can now enjoy the return of Sein as a member of the cast ofFrieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
