Following the major Omens of Tyranny update forHelldivers 2, the game has come under fire from its community for its implementation of collaboration items fromKillzone, an FPS series developed by Guerilla Games. Players have protested the first wave ofKillzoneitems for their unusually high prices, equivalent to about $20 USD for players who would want to buy every item. In response,Helldivers 2’s developer, Arrowhead Game Studios, has made some big changes to how theKillzonecollaboration will function.
As announced by@helldivers2 on X,the second wave ofKillzonecrossover items will be sent to all players for free, including an armor set, two primary weapons, a player banner, and a cape. While the first wave of items will remain in the Superstore at the same price, their availability has been extended from five days to ten, allowing players extra time to get Super Credits for them, andHelldivers 2’s developers are looking into methods to"bring these items back permanently in the future."

Helldivers 2 Killzone Collab Items Include Are Easy To Claim
Players Should Claim Helldiver’s Killzone Collab Items Before It’s Too Late
When the first wave ofKillzonecrossover items initially launched, they immediately proved controversial for their high cost, limited nature, and their separation from the established Warbond system, where players can buy permanently available battle passes for the equivalent of $10 USD inHelldivers 2’s premium currency. Following player protest, the second wave ofKillzoneitems, including the two primary weapons, the PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifle and the StA-11 SMG, have been sent to all players for free.
PlayStation Still Needs To Learn From Its Biggest 2024 Mistake
Sony will continue to require PC players to link their PSN account for PlayStation Studios games, citing safety concerns as the primary reason.
Players wanting to claim the second wave ofKillzonecrossover items only need to start up the game to claim their rewards, similar to rewards from completed Major Orders. It’s currently unknown if there’s any sort of time limit on claiming the crossover items, butplayers will probably want to claim them sooner rather than later, just in case. The first wave of items, in contrast, have remained in the Superstore at the same prices that they were initially released at.

Free Items Are Nice, But Helldivers 2’s Collab Monetization Is In Doubt
Future Helldivers 2 Collaborations Will Have To Reconsider Their Pricing
While players will be happy to receive the new, free items, the first wave of theKillzonecollaboration is hopefully not a sign of what’s to come forHelldivers 2’s future in terms of monetization. Although some level of ongoing monetization is necessary for the game to continue receiving majorupdates like Omens of Tyranny, the limited availability and high prices of the initially releasedKillzonecrossover items trends a little too closely to encouraging FOMO spending for comfort, and future collaborations like this one will hopefully strike a better balance.

For now, though, players who want to make use of the free new items should try to claim them sooner rather than later, and Arrowhead has promised to reconsider the pricing of future collaborations with other games. AsHelldivers 2continues to release new content, the game’s developers will have to carefully consider the game’s monetization and hopefully avoid further controversies in the process.
