Most of the spirits inGhostshave a ghostly ability, some of which could be quite dangerous, but the Main 8 ghosts of Woodstone B&B are not the spirits that Sam and Jay should be most worried about. In the four seasons the U.S. version ofGhostshas been on, the spirits have given their human companions plenty of trouble, but it’s never led to an actually dangerous situation.
The last few seasons ofGhostshave introduced new ghost characters to supplement the original eight ghosts of Woodstone, each with their own backstories and baggage. As a result, the often-overlooked basement ghosts got even less attention. Though they’ve been there from the start, like the Main 8, they tend to only be included when it comes to the boiler situation. ButGhostsseason 4 just changed that with a reveal that makes them a potential problem that could carry over intoGhostsseason 5.

Basement Ghosts’ New Power Explained
The Basement Spirits Revealed A Surprising Power
DuringGhostsseason 4, episode 12, Flower went to the basement spirits to rant about the world ending. Nobody would listen to her, and she needed to find a way to stop the opening of the restaurant. It was then thatbasement spirits revealed previously unknown abilities: they can all give other people cholera as that’s what they themselves died of.
Cholera is a bacterial infection caused by contaminated food or drink. Most people who get cholera won’t have symptoms, but it can be dangerous if it is a severe infection.

ThecholeraGhosts' basement spirits giveis temporary; people recover from the sickness after a day, but the symptoms are still excruciating at the time. The basement ghosts aren’t evil, per se. They don’t want to hurt innocent people to the point of death. However, their actions prove that they’re willing to take drastic measuresif they believe it’s important.
How The Basement Ghosts' Powers Can Fully Sabotage Jay’s Restaurant
Jay has just opened his new restaurant, and he needs to see it succeed. However, the basement ghosts havethe power to completely sabotage it. All these ghosts need to do is walk through people in the restaurant, and everyone would get cholera. Multiple people experiencing the same symptoms would quickly lead to fingers being pointed at food or drink contamination, which would be disastrous for Woodstone B&B.
If word got out that people were getting cholera at Jay’s restaurant, the health department would come in. The restaurant would be shut down, and that’s the end of the road: Jay’s dream would be over. Despite the proof, theinvestigation into whether Jay’s restaurant gave people cholera would destroy his dream.

Even if health officials found that the restaurant wasn’t the cause, the damage would already be done socially.
Even if health officials found that the restaurant wasn’t the cause, the damage would already be done socially. People take to social media to share their stories. With the restaurant’s name linked to a cholera outbreak, people everywhere would remember it. It would take a long time to prove to potential customers that the restaurant was safe to eat at, and potentially even longer to rebuild its reputation, if it ever could.

Ghosts Season 4 Has 1 Clear Favorite Spirit & I Honestly Cannot Blame The CBS Comedy
It’s becoming increasingly clear that Ghosts season 4 has a favorite ghost and honestly, after episode 13, I can see why they are the sitcom’s star.
Viewers saw how quickly the basement ghosts could make this happen the night before opening, and so did Jay. Jay knows the damage that a cholera outbreak could do to his reputation, which iswhy he made up a story for the chefs to believe. He was fortunate that the chefs were not the smartest people in the room, so they believed the tale.
Sam & Jay Don’t Have The Best Of Relationship With The Basement Ghosts
Sam Will Need To Take Action To Protect Jay’s Dream
Unfortunately, Sam and Jay don’t have the best rapport with the basement ghosts. It’s hard forJay since he can’t see spirits unless he’s possessed inGhostsagain, but Sam also hasn’t spent a lot of time in the basement, and that needs to change by the end ofGhostsseason 4 with her building that relationship into the next season. These ghosts aren’t as welcome upstairs by the other spirits, andthey tend to be forgotten by everyone.
Despite the neglect, their actions may not be fully malicious; the basement ghosts just don’t have a history of acting before they think. That was shown in the episode when Flower quickly rallied the spirits in the basement to her aid. The basement ghosts didn’t even give Jay or Sam a chance to explain themselves, buttook Flower’s word that the world was going to endand quickly got into action.
Still, they’ve shown they can be a nuisance when upset, especially Nancy. During theGhostsseason 3 finale, Nancy helped to orchestrate Isaac being taken by Patience because all the basement spirits were hurt by being left out of Isaac and Nigel’s wedding. While Nancy later regretted her involvement, she still didn’t tell Sam everything that happened until later. As she’s the ringleader of the basement ghosts, it makes the whole group dangerous. All it takes is for thebasement ghosts to feel like they have been slightedin some way, and they can cause havoc.
