8Does Chae-ok Cecognize Tae-sang In Gyeongseong Creature’s Final Scene?

Chae-ok & Tae-sang’s Story Doesn’t Seem To Be Over

WhileGyeongseong Creaturedives into many different themes, one of its main focuses is its love story.Yoon Chae-ok (Han So-hee) and Jang Tae-sang’s (Park Seo-joon) relationship always seems to end in tragedy, with Yoon Chae-ok’s season 1 fate being mirrored in season 2 as she finds herself on the brink of death. As a result, she can no longer remember her old life. Although it seems that there is another barrier in Chae-ok and Tae-sang’s love story, the final scene inGyeongseong Creaturesuggests theirK-drama romanceis far from over.

Gyeongseong Creature’s second season is due to be released sometime in 2024, but there are plenty of other K-dramas to watch while waiting.

Despite her memory loss, there are multiple occasions in this sequence where Chae-ok seems to remember Tae-sang, but it is unclear to what extent. She wears the bracelet he gave her but doesn’t know why it’s important. She also runs into him on the street and appears very emotional at the sight of him. It is unknown whether Chae-ok truly remembers Tae-sang or just remembers the emotions she associates with him.Any future seasons ofGyeongseong Creaturewould have to address Chae-ok and Tae-sang’s new dynamicand whether they could get the happy ending they so desperately want.

7Who Is Yoon Chae-ok Now?

Jang Tae-sang’s Season 2 Fate Repeats Itself With Chae-ok

One ofGyeongseong Creatureseason 1’s biggest unanswered questions came with theidentity of Park Seo-joon’s Jang Ho-jae, and what role he would play in the K-drama. Fortunately, this question was resolved as Jang Ho-jae is the identity that Jang Tae-sang assumed after losing his memories. Now, with Yoon Chae-ok seemingly to have lost her memories under the same circumstances as Tae-sang did,it’s implied that Yoon Chae-ok is no longer herself anymore.

Lady Maeda

Claudia Kim

What is known about Chae-ok’s current persona is that she is a university student living with the antenna grandmother (Park Hye-jin). She has a more upbeat personality and seemingly has little recollection of her past. Judging by what happened to Tae-sang, it’s likely that a persona has been created for her to shield her, with the antenna grandmother being entrusted with her care. However, there are a lot of question marks about who Chae-ok is now, what kind of person she believes she is, and what the future has in store for her.

6What Happened to Tae-sang & Chae-ok Between Seasons 1&2?

Little Is Known About What Happened To Them Over The 79 Year Time-Jump

Due toGyeongseong Creature’s time jump, little is known about what happened to Jang Tae-sang and Yoon Chae-ok between 1945 and 2024. Jang Tae-sang’s past has slightly more clarity than Chae-ok’s. It’s known he became infected with a najin parasite in 1947 after Lady Maeda (Claudia Kim) gave him one as a mercy before killing his friends. It’s also heavily implied his first murder was of Mrs. Nawol, who survived the brutality. Tae-sang’s najin was then removed in 2023, leading him to live as Ho-jae. Otherwise, Tae-sang’s past is unclear.

Similarly, not much else is known about what happened to Chae-ok. Following her infection, she went on a killing spree and murdered an entire village. This is presumed to have been in 1945, as she isolated herself from Tae-sang during Korea’s Independence Day celebrations. Other than this, her past is shrouded in mystery. It would be great to seeGyeongseong Creaturefill in more of the gaps of the past to give more of an insight into whom these characters are in the present day, and how living for such a long time has affected them.

5Why Was Tae-sang’s Najin Removed?

Was He Another One of Lady Maeda’s Experiments?

The removal of Tae-sang’s najin is another big question that looms over his past. It was confirmed thatTae-sang’s najin was removed in 2023after having been caught by the Kuroko, but why this happened remains a mystery.Gyeongseong Creatureleaves its options open and there could be several reasons for why this happened before thethriller K-drama’s second season.

Lady Maeda could have used this as an opportunity to use Tae-sang as one of her experiments and figure out what happens to someone who has their najin removed.

Firstly, it’s implied that Tae-sang had attempted to stop Jeonseung Biotech previously, so they could have removed his najin to weaken or kill him. Alternatively,Lady Maeda could have used this as an opportunity to use Tae-sang as one of her experimentsand figure out what happens to someone who has their najin removed. But then why wait so long to capture him and remove it? This is one of the bigger questions thatGyeongseong Creatureneeds to answer if its story continues.

4How Did Seung-jo Become So Close To Tae-sang?

Their Relationship Is Slightly Confusing

Seung-jo (Bae Hyun-sung) is one of the most interesting newcharacters inGyeongseong Creature. As Myeong-ja’s (Ji-woo) son, he inherited an adult najin from birth, giving him more enhanced powers than other najin infectees. However, as Lady Maeda and those around him viewed him as a monster, he embraced this identity and chose to become one.Only Tae-sang is known to have viewed Seung-jo as something different, humanizing the person thought to be a monster. WhileGyeongseong Creaturedelves into why Seung-jo has such an affection for Tae-sang, season 2 never really delves into how.

It’s presumed that Seung-jo and Tae-sang first met after Tae-sang became Ho-jae, as Seung-jo only calls him by this name. Yet as Tae-sang’s time as Ho-jae plus his missing najin are two mysteries thatGyeongseong Creaturehas yet to delve into, it leaves many question marks surrounding the intricacies of their relationship. So, with Seung-jo looking to beGyeongseong Creatureseason 3’s main villain, it would be great to see more of an exploration into how Seung-jo came to hold Ho-jae/Tae-sang in such high regard.

3Why Is Seung-jo The Only Najin-Infectee Who Aged?

All The Other Najin Infectees Did Not Go Through The Aging Process

Compared to season 1,the najin plays a very different role inGyeongseong Creatureseason 2.The najin are instead used as vices for accelerated healing and physical strength but with the unfortunate side effect of insatiable bloodlust. Another side effect of the najin is that their hosts do not age. This explains why Tae-sang, Chae-ok, and Lady Maeda were able to exist in the present day whilst looking the same as they did in 1945. However, this does not explain Seung-jo.

Despite his appearance, Seung-jo is actually 79 years old as he was born in 1945.

Seung-jo is the only najin-infectee to have been infected from birth, yet he presents as a young adult. As the najin ensures its hosts don’t age, it’s strange that Seung-jo appears throughout the season as both a child and an adult. His infection with adult najin could have explained his growth, but as Chae-ok also possessed an adult najin, it doesn’t hold up. Hopefully, this is an anomaly thatGyeongseong Creaturewill address if the story continues.

2What Impact Will The Najin Have After Gyeongseong Creature 2’s Post Credits Scene?

They Look To Be A Big Threat In The Future

Gyeongseong Creature’s shocking post-credits scene suggests that a third season could be imminent. In the scene, Seung-jo oversees the mass production of najin larvae, which are placed into water bottles and distributed in stores. This could mean thatGyeongseong Creature’s story could follow in the footsteps of other K-dramas likeSweet Home, and expand its story on a much bigger scale.

Gyeongseong Creature Season 3 Looks All But Confirmed After That Post-Credits Scene

There has been no official announcement about Gyeongseong Creature 3, but season 2’s post-credits scene suggests the K-drama’s story isn’t over.

While the scale change of the najin infection feels like an inevitability, the size of this scale is still relatively unknown. Up until this point,Gyeongseong Creature’s story has focused itself in Gyeongseong/Seoul. Even then, the series does not explore this large city to its full extent. Sothis new plotline could seeGyeongseong Creaturebegin to expand its reach into Seoul and beyond. If theNetflix K-dramadoes get renewed, it would be exciting to see just how big of an impact the najin could have on Korea, and perhaps even the world.

1Why Was Gyeongseong Creature 2 Set In The Modern Day?

The Time Jump Is Never Explained In Gyeongseong Creature

AsGyeongseong Creature’s first season was heavily reliant on the historical context of the past, its move to the present day was relatively shocking and left many questioning why such a move was taken. Having watched the second season, this question still looms over the series. Why was the present day chosen over other periods, especially when the context of the Japanese occupation was so vitally important to its narrative, is an interesting question.

One interpretation is thatGyeongseong Creature’s move to the present could be to reflect on the impact of these events in the modern day. Tae-sang tells Seung-jo in season 2, episode 7 that he never wants Lady Maeda and those at Jeonseung Biotech to forget the atrocities of the past. This certainly makes sense within the historical context as it ensures this dark history is never forgotten. However, as this is not confirmed byGyeongseong Creature, it’s hard to be certain if this was the show’s intention.
