HBO head Casey Bloys revealed how far along the recently announcedGame of Thronesmovie is. Throughout its run on HBO,Game of Thronesbecame one of the most popular shows in the world. Ever since its conclusion in 2019, HBO and Warner Bros. have attempted to expand the franchise with spinoff shows likeHouse of the Dragonand theupcomingA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Now, Warner Bros. is eager to bring the world of Westeros to the big screen.
As reported byEntertainment Weekly, Bloys recently spoke about theGame Thronesmovie at a 2025 preview event. While he is excited about a potentialGame of Thronesmovie,Bloys stresses that they are still very early in the process, and they’ll have to see how good the idea is once it’s further developed. Read his full quote below:

When we announce at HBO we’re developing this story or that story, keep in mind it’s developing. We’ve got two shows at the moment, includingGame of Thrones. I think the movie is the same idea. They’ll develop an idea, we’ll see if it’s good. We’ll read the scripts along with them. I think it could be fun and interesting.
That’s the point of development: you see, is there a story that’s worthy of being in theaters and a big spectacle? I think it would be fun. I don’t necessarily look at it from an investment point of view, just like, would it be a fun, big movie? I think there’s potential for that. It’s very early in the process.

What Bloys' Comments Mean For The Game Of Thrones Movie
The Game Of Thrones Movie Might Not Happen
While the report about the upcomingGame of Thronesmovie became major news, Bloys' most recent comments suggest that the film is not a guarantee. Before theGame of Thronesmovie ever actually starts filming, its story would have to be approved and greenlit. Therefore,if HBO and Warner Bros. are not happy with the idea, aGame of Thronesmovie might not end up coming to fruition. This wouldn’t be entirely surprising, as HBO has always put extra care into the quality of their projects.
New Game Of Thrones Movie Could Be The Shake-Up The Fantasy Franchise Needs
A Game of Thrones movie is in development, and given the current state of HBO’s spinoffs, it could be exactly what the franchise needs.
For example, HBO once spent $30 million on a pilot episode for aGame of Thronesspinoff titledBloodmoon. The spinoff took place thousands of years before the events ofGame of Thrones, and was set during the period of time known as “The Long Night.” Even though many thought the pilot episode was quite strong, HBO ultimately decided not to move forward with the series. Therefore, it is clear that HBO has very high standards, andwould only want to make aGame of Thronesmovie if it was the right story.

Our Take On The Game Of Thrones Movie
It Should Only Move Forward With The Right Story
TheGame of Thronesfranchise is cherished by fans all over the world, who can cause an uproar if they are unhappy with the projects. For example, the divisive final season ofGame of Thronesled to a petition demanding it to be remade, and fans also got upset over the slow-pacing ofHouse of the Dragonseason 2. Therefore,it is smart that HBO wants to ensure they have the right story before making aGame of Thronesmovie. Hopefully, development goes smoothly, as the world of Westeros would look amazing on the big screen.
