Falloutfans were almost universally impressed by the massiveVault 13mod when it dropped its demoin mid-2024 butit seems like the project is no longer happening. A huge mod that aimed to recreate the entirety of the originalFalloutinFallout 4’s engine,Vault 13was an incredible feat by a group of talented fans who clearly had a great deal of passion for the franchise. Unfortunately, the love wasn’t enough to allow the team to continue as they’ve acknowledged that development on the mod must come to a halt.

PerPC Gamer,Fallout: Vault 13co-lead culinwino shared a message to the mod’s Discord community confirming that development on the game was coming to an end due to several significant reasons. Culinwino notes thatthe team was plagued by a lack of experienced contributors, clashing schedules, and major burnout problems, prompting the decision to pack it in before the problems became too serious. TheVault 13developers have released their current build of the mod in its entirety so those interested in seeing what could have been can check it out.

Looking After One’s Health Is Paramount

Vault 13was an ambitious project, one that would have been difficult to accomplish even if the team had the necessary resources to bring it to life. Fans may be disappointed that the mod will never be finished butat the end of the day, those producing it need to look after themselves. It may have been a huge success, but when the cost could be one’s mental health, it’s better to prioritize and focus on the things that really matter.

At the very least, players can still enjoy the current build of the mod which is an incredible proof of concept for how aFallout 1remake could look.Bethesda has already stated that it has no intention of going back to the original title and modernizing itsoVault 13is seemingly the closest the community will get toseeing a full reimagining. At the very least, the fact that culinwino has left thedoor open for a different group of moddersto take over is encouraging but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.

Fallout 5 Has To Avoid This Starfield Mistake - But Can It?

Fallout 5 may still be a way away, but it must avoid one of fellow Microsoft and Bethesda RPG Starfield’s biggest mistakes if at all possible.

Screen Rant’s Take: Fallout Fans Deserve A Remake

But Not One That Costs A Team Of Modders Their Mental Health

The originalFalloutis a fantastic game that deserves all the recognition it earned; Unfortunately, it’s also aged poorly and can be difficult for newcomers to understand. I think Bethesda would have a definite hit on its hands if it did remake the first titlein the style ofFallout 4, so it’s strange that such a project seemingly needs to be completed by modders. My heart goes out to theVault 13team, and as disappointing as it is to see the mod come to an end, I fully support their decision to step away.
