TheAlienfranchise’s Xenomorph melds with a spider to become a terrifying new creature in creative fan art. Ridley Scott’s seminal 1979 sci-fi horror was the first film to introduce the Xenomorph, chronicling one crew’s futile attempt at survival after encountering the creature in deep space. The film was a hit, and there have now beensevenAlienmoviesin total, with several of the later installments introducing new takes on the iconic Xenomorph design.

ArtistBad_blood_customnow imagines their own take on theAlienfranchise’s Xenomorph, depicting a hybrid version of the creature crossed with a spider. Instead of making the titular alien bipedal, as it traditionally appears, the first image gives the Xenomorph seven legs. The creature’s iconic head design remains largely unchanged, but it now does have several pincer-like limbs by its mouth. Check out the first image below:

The next image is similar but with some design tweaks. Gone are the pincers in this iteration, but there are several more legs and what appears to be a tail, as in the creature’s original design. This Xenomorph-spider hybrid is also dripping far more ooze, and the wet environment makes the whole thing far more gross-looking. Check it out below:

Alien’s History With Xenomorph Hybrids Explained (& What’s Next)

Romulus Keeps One Key Franchise Element Alive For The Future

After the 1979 original, James Cameron’s sequel upped the ante with an action-packed narrative that featured dozens of Xenomorphs. The Xenomorph queen is also first introduced in the sequel. The first real Xenomorph hybrid, however, didn’t appear until the end ofAlien: Resurrection(1997) with the introduction of a human-like monster called the Newborn. When Scott returned to the franchise with prequelsPrometheus(2012) andAlien: Covenant(2017), both of these films also featured new Xenomorph designs, depicting earlier stages of the creature’s development.

Alien: Covenant’s Xenomorph, though closer to the original design, is technically a genetically-engineered species called the Praetomorph.

Most recently, a xenomorph hybrid appeared at theend ofAlien: Romulus(2024). Fede Alvarez’s soft reboot of theAlienfranchise features a new monster dubbed the Offspring, which was born as a result of a human character consuming black goo. The film has been a major success, and anAlien: Romulussequel is now confirmed to be in development. Though the Offspring dies by the time the credits roll inRomulus, the continued existence of the black goo means that Alvarez can introduce another hybrid formin whatever movie comes next.

Fede Alvarez’s Take On A Spider-Like Xenomorph Would Be Chilling

In many ways, it’s surprising that a Xenomorph-spider hybrid hasn’t yet been featured in anyAlienmovie. The creature featured inAlien: Covenantactually moves in a fairly spider-like fashion on all fours, andCGI certainly makes it possible to bring such a hybrid to life.

10 Prometheus & Covenant Mysteries Ridley Scott’s New Alien Movie Can Solve

Ridley Scott is making his directorial return to the Alien franchise, and his new film can solve these 10 Prometheus and Covenant mysteries.

Though the Xenomorph’s original design is plenty scary enough, giving it a handful of extra limbs and a scuttling manner of moving sounds like a recipe for true terror. After the positivereviews forAlien: Romulus,Alvarez could be just the filmmaker to bring such a terrifying vision to life. It remains to be seen whether a spider-like design will ever actually make its way into a futureAlienmovie, but it’s likely that more hybrids are to come.
