There have been mentions of a show for a while now that will be set beforeThe Karate Kid, andCobra Kaiseason 6 has provided the perfect opportunity for Netflix to greenlight the show.Part 2 ofCobra Kai’s final season did something that no one expectedand found a way to bring back Mr. Miyagi, but in such a creative way that it could easily be moved on from without any major narrative issues. However, the key addition toCobra Kaiseason 6, part 2’s castcould be instrumental to the franchise’s future.
Mr. Miyagi has appeared in almosteveryKarate Kidmovie, with the only omission coming in Jackie Chan’sThe Karate Kidin 2010 - which, at the time, was a remake of the original. With Chan’s movie now canonized andMiyagi’s cameo inCobra Kai, the 2010 effort remains the only franchise installment not to feature the character made famous by Pat Morita. However, it seems as though there are plans to reveal . Miyagi’s timelinefrom before the first movie - andCobra Kaihelps make that even more likely.

Mr. Miyagi From Cobra Kai Season 6’s Dream Sequence Sets Up The Karate Kid Prequel Show
Speaking withThe Hollywood Reporter,Cobra Kai’s showrunners discussed conversations with Robert Mark Kamen, the creator of theKarate Kidfranchise and the man whose sensei was used as the basis for Mr. Miyagi. Although the meetings were primarily to help build on Miyagi’s backstory inCobra Kaiseason 6,the concept of a Mr. Miyagi prequel show afterCobra Kaiends was strongly teased, with the showrunners confirming they “definitely want to do that and have been talking about that.” While this could require recasting Miyagi with a younger actor,Cobra Kaihas already taken care of that task.
Mr. Miyagi’s Final Lesson For Daniel LaRusso Explained
Daniel LaRusso is questioning everything he knew about Mr. Miyagi in Cobra Kai season 6, part 2, and his late sensei has a dark lesson for him.
Brian Takahashi plays Mr. Miyagi in the dream sequence of Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso inCobra Kaiseason 6, part 2’s final episode, “Eunjangdo.” Although his appearance is brief,Takahashi does an incredible job as a younger version of Daniel’s late sensei, and it would be a huge shame if he were never given the chance to reprise the role. Obviously, playing the character inCobra Kaiagain would be limited to similar circumstances like dreams and hallucinations, but a show set in Miyagi’s earlier years would be the perfect chance for Takashi to return in a more substantial capacity.

Takahashi Could Also Have A Cameo In Karate Kid: Legends
A Mr. Miyagi flashback with Brian Takahashi isn’t out of the question
2025’s upcoming legacy sequel will be set three years after the events ofCobra Kai’s final season. So,Karate Kid: Legendswon’t be an immediate follow-up to the Netflix show, and will be its own, self-contained narrative. That being said, the all-star cast of Macchio and Chan implies the movie will also be a celebration of the previousKarate Kidfeature-length productions. The unfortunate reality of Morita’s passing means he’ll be unable to appear, but a flashback to Mr. Miyagi’s youth would allow yet another appearance from Takahashi’s take on the iconicThe Karate Kid, thanks toCobra Kai.
