The latestSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verseupdate could mean that we’ll get twoSpider-Manfilms in one year, and that just makes me even more excited. Spider-Man has always been one of the most popular Marvel heroes, which is whyevery iteration of him has done so wellat the box office and amongst fans. The MCU’s version of the hero has been especially well-received, and Sony also churned out an unexpected hit withSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Versein 2018. With both franchises currently working on a future installment, the anticipation has been higher than ever.
However,Beyond the Spider-Versehas faced some obstacles during production. The original release date forBeyond the Spider-Versewas set for July 09, 2025, but issues during production had it delayed. The 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike postponed work on the film even further, andSony eventually removedBeyond the Spider-Versefrom its slateuntil a certain release date could be set in stone. I was already glad that the studio was giving the team the time they’d need to make the best film they could, but I’m even more excited now that it could mean an overlap with another Spider-Man project.

The Film Won’t Be Released Earlier Than 2025
Since production onBeyond the Spider-Versewas announced as being indefinitely delayed, speculation on when the new release date started growing, as well as reasons for the delay. ADeadlinereport stated that there were no plans to releaseBeyond the Spider-Versein 2025. Earlier this year in September, another report claimed that the film would not release earlier than 2027 due to most of the project being scrapped for creative reasons.Producer Christopher Miller and composer Daniel Pemberton have since refuted the claimsof the second report, making a possible release date for the film easier to deduce.
It’s still highly unlikely thatBeyond the Spider-Versewill be released next year, and Miller and Pemberton have confirmed that the 2027 report is not true. Spider-Man India voice actor Karan Soni also said in an August interview that recording should start in a few months. Taking all of that into account,a 2026 release date forBeyond the Spider-Verseseems the most likelyas it seems like most things are beginning to be put in the works, and Sony will have all of next year to perfect it.

Spider-Man 4 Has Been Confirmed For June 27, 2025
One Spider-Man project that does have a confirmed release date isthe MCU’sSpider-Man 4, set for July 07, 2025. Consideringthe confirmation that actor Tom Holland will be returningand that he’s been reading early versions of the script, it seems like production for that film is well underway as well. It will be a big event for Holland’s Peter Parker as his last appearance inSpider-Man: No Way Homecompletely changed his character’s life.Spider-Man 4will be a new beginning for Peter in a way, as he starts to navigate life without his family and friends.
ThoughSpider-Manand theSpider-Versetrilogy are done by two different companies, Marvel still won’t want to overlap the release dates of the two projects. WithSpider-Man 4taking the summer blockbuster spot, it’s likely thatBeyond the Spider-Versewill be scheduled around the winter holiday season.Into the Spider-Versewas released in December 2018, and it performed incredibly well, so Sony may schedule for December once again, especially because it would optimize the time that production would get to work on the film.
Why Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse & Spider-Man 4 Releasing The Same Year Could Be A Good Thing
The Two Spider-Man Franchises Have Little Overlap
It may seem like releasing two Spider-Man projects in the same year would be a bad idea, but I think it will work out in favor of both franchises. It would admittedly be a lot of Spider-Man content for one year, but he is a hero that fans never get sick of. It’s also extremely helpful thatboth franchises focus on a different version of Spider-Man, with one following Peter Parker and the other Miles Morales. The two projects have almost no overlap with each other in terms of characters, and even in the artistic medium that they’re presented in.
As long as the two films are scheduled far enough apart from each other,the double feature may help to draw up excitement with both fans and more casual viewers. Fans will undoubtedly crave more Spider-Man content ifSpider-Man 4is well-received, andBeyond the Spider-Versereleasing a few months later would capitalize off of their anticipation. Having back-to-back Spider-Man releases in 2026 could make it a stellar year for the hero, and I’m really hoping thatSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verseis on the right track for that.
