Everyone loves the World’s Finest dynamic, butBatmanandWonder Womancould stand to have their friendship tweaked a bit. Despite being two of the DC Universe’s biggest icons, Bruce and Diana just aren’t as close as they could, or rather, shouldbe.
Of course, Batman, Wonder Woman, andSuperman all make up the Trinity, and I’d never doubt for a second that the three of them get along just great. But while we often see how strong Clark and Diana’s friendship is, as well as the one between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel, DC hasn’t really emphasized their friendship in quite a while, and that seriously needs to change.

Batman and Wonder Woman Can Be Really Great Friends
One Great Scene Showcased How Well They Interact
InSuperman: Heroes #1by Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Greg Rucka, Kevin Maguire, Mike Perkins, Steve Lieber, Mike Norton, and Scott Godlewski,Batman is at Wayne Manor, contemplating Superman’s announcement that he’s going to divulge his secret identity to the world. Despite wanting to be alone, Wonder Woman arrives at the manor to talk the news out with Bruce, though he remains tight-lipped. The two head inside and sit down for tea, and it isn’t long beforeBatman finally confides in Wonder Woman, telling her he thinks Superman is making a mistake.
Wonder Woman asks what problem Batmanhas with Superman’s decision, leading to Bruce to lay out his fears. Bruce believes that this puts everyone in danger, not just Clark’s family or superhero allies, but innocent people as well. Diana counters this fear, saying that no matter what, Clark is still Superman and that public knowledge of his identity will make the people in his life safer.Wonder Woman asks what’s really bothering Batman, but he just retreats to his caveto mull over Diana’s words.

Superman actually revealed his identity inSuperman #18!
Bruce admits that he thinks Superman’s decision is selfish and that Superman ‘speaking his truth’ is just a way to disregard what other people want or need. Diana rebuffs, saying that Batman knows Superman isn’t selfish at all. But when he dismisses her, Wonder Woman gets real, telling Batman that he’s feeling raw because Clark has done something Bruce can never bring himself to do. After her words sink in, Batman does agree that he’s slightly jealous of Superman not having to hide.Wonder Woman comforts Batman, saying that he might get the same opportunity one day.
I Think Wonder Woman and Batman Should Bond More Like This
Batman Needs More Interactions with His Unyielding Peer
I’m someone who will always defend the Superman/Batman friendship because it’s awesome, and it really humanizes Bruce. But I wish we’d get more scenes like this between him and Diana. What’s great about this scene is that she’s not just here to listen to Bruce and act as a sounding board, she’s giving him a much-needed perspective when he needs to hear it most. Superman will usually just let Batman vent and crack a joke. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, engages in dialogue and even challenges his worldview, making him consider things Batman isn’t willing to voice.
… who doesn’t like seeing Wonder Woman being one of the few people that isn’t afraid to call out Batman…

I know she makes up the Trinity with Batman and Superman, but sometimes DC puts a bit more emphasis on those two and forgets that Diana is friends with both Bruce and Clark. That’s not to say that she never gets time with her friends, but if writers do pair them up one-on-one, it’s usually the World’s Finest first, Diana and Clark second, and Batman and Wonder Woman last. But this scene shows that Diana gets Bruce. She knows he’s not emotionally closed off,but she’s also ready to push him so that Batman will both open up and listen.
There are a lot of superhero friendships that don’t always get the chance to shine, but as two pillars of the DC Universe,I think Batman and Wonder Woman do need to hang out more. Comics could always use more male/female friendships and, come on, who doesn’t like seeing Wonder Woman being one of the few people that isn’t afraid to call out Batman and have an honest conversation with him? I like seeing these characters outside their larger-than-life personas and having the real kinds of conversations that genuine friends actually have.

Don’t Forget About Batman and Wonder Woman’s Friendship, DC
Bruce and Diana are Just as Important as Any Other Trinity Friendship
Batman and Wonder Woman have been through a lot together and moments like this showcase just how deep their bond runs. While they’ve got a lot going on in their own worlds, it’d be nice to see Bruce and Diana have some more one-on-one time. We’ll always get plenty of Bruce/Clark and Clark/Diana scenes, so hopefully, DC will be mindful and make sure to put a bit more effort intoBatmanandWonder Woman’sfriendship.
