Dragon Ball Daimais the newest addition to theDragon Balluniverse, and it hasn’t missed its mark. It’s a fun, light-hearted series that reintroduces the cast ofDragon Ballin an amazing light. WhileDragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT,andDragon Ball Superput action first and comedy second,Daimachanges the formula to create a new series that feels fresher than ever.

The evil Demon King Gomah used the Dragon Balls to make Goku and the rest of the Z Fighters become kids again, leading toa hilarious adventure, great battles, and surprising transformations. As a series that puts fun first, it has a different tone than most of theDragon Ballfranchise, but there are still plenty of other anime series that share a lot in common with the latest entry into theDragon Ballcanon.

Black Clover

Cast

Black Clover, released in 2017, follows orphans Asta and Yuno who aspire to become the Wizard King in a world where magic is paramount. Despite Asta’s lack of powers, their journey unfolds as they receive their grimoires and embark on individual paths towards their ultimate goal.

Black Cloveris quickly becoming one of the best new shōnen series around. It stars Asta, a magic-less peasant in a world that values magic above all else. Like Goku fromDaima,Asta is known for his never-quit attitude, his abilityto be an excellent friend, and the fact thathe’ll always find a solutionto whatever problem he’s facing. Both series feature a lot of humor throughout the show, making the tougher parts of both series much easier to watch.

They’re also both shōnen to their core. The best fights inBlack Cloverfeature Asta or one of his friendsflying around the battlefield, taking on their enemies in terrific combat. Asta is also capable of great transformations just like Goku, leveling up visually to let everyone know that he’s reached a new level of power his enemies should be worried about.

One Piece

The One Piece anime began in 1999 and follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy with rubber-like abilities, as he embarks on a journey to find the legendary treasure “One Piece.” Inspired by the pirate Shanks, Luffy aims to become the King of the Pirates, accompanied by a diverse crew.

The big three of shōnen anime areDragon Ball, Naruto, and, of course, the legendaryOne Piece. One Pieceis not only amazing for its cast of characters and the world that they live in, but for the fact that it’s beenairing for well over 1,000 episodesand doesn’t seem to have dipped in quality the entire time. The fact that it has run for 1,000 episodes is one thing, but the fact that it’s also been good the entire time is almost indescribable.

Luffy and Goku are two of the most adorably dense main characters in anime. They both love eating, can sleep anywhere, and won’t settle for anything less than the best. They’re also both capable of some of thebest transformations in anime, crashing Crunchyroll serverswhen they reach Gear Five or Ultra Instinct respectively.

Mob Psycho 100

Mob Psycho 100 follows Shigeo Kageyama, a young boy struggling with self-expression while possessing formidable psychic abilities. As he strives for normalcy by suppressing his powers, he faces challenges from false psychics, malevolent spirits, and enigmatic entities, bringing his emotional and psychic thresholds to critical levels.

Mob Psychois one of the mostthought-provoking and heartfelt seriesin anime. It stars a young, awkward Mob as he looks to navigate his teen world with some of the most amazing abilities within it. While he’s a bit different socially, he’s just a young kid who wants to fit in at the end of the day. With the help of one of thebest father figures in animein his mentor, Reigen Arataka, there might just be some hope for the young man.

Mob PsychoandDaimashare a lot more in common than they would initially suggest. They’re both very funny shows, have plenty of interesting characters, and have a main character who ismuch stronger than everyonearound them. BothDaimaandMob Psychoare also very funny, creating humorous moments when they’re least expected, and always to great effect.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles

Mashle: Magic and Muscles follows Mash, a non-magical young man living in a realm where magic determines social status. After being discovered, he is enrolled in a magic school, where he must rely on his extraordinary physical strength to compete with his magically gifted peers.

Mash fromMashle: Magic and Musclesmight be one of the few characters in animeas simple as Goku. Both characters don’t like to think about much, and if they are thinking, it’s probably about food. Goku likes to fight a little more than Mash does, but that doesn’t change the fact that Mash is also willing to fight anyone if it means defending his friends. Mash’s lack of intelligence has never been a real problem when it comes to fighting, and Goku can relate to that easily.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles season 2 key visual of the main character surrounded by supporting characters trapped in glass.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles Season 3 Trailer, Story, & Latest News

Mashle: Magic and Muscles has been one of the best anime to come out of Shonen Jump in recent years, and season 3 is now officially confirmed.

Mashle: Magic and Musclesis another series that puts comedy before action in a great way. That’s not to say that there isn’tplenty of action, as Mash takes on a myriad of enemies throughout the show. As a whole,Dragon Ball DaimaandMashle: Magic and Muscleshave much more in common than fans might initially believe, makingMashlea great show for someone who wants something similar to whatDaimahas on offer.

KonoSuba God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! (2016)

KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!

KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!, commonly referred to as KonoSuba, is a Japanese anime series based on the novels of the same name from writer Natsume Akatsuki and illustrator Kurone Mishima. The series revolves around a man named Kazuma, who is offered a second chance at life on a magical world after he dies.

ComparingKonoSubatoDragon Ball Daimamight seem like a bit of a stretch, but likeMashle, the two series havemuch more in commonjust under the surface.KonoSubais thefunniest isekai series of all time. It also puts comedy at its forefront and doesn’t change its game plan throughout the entire show. Kazuma Satou might not have a lot in common with Goku, but their series do.Kazuma hates workand just wants to be pampered, which leads to a lot of hilarious moments when he eventually gets himself in trouble.

03170425_poster_w780.jpg

Goku could teach Kazuma a thing or two about hard work, and Kazuma could probably teach Goku about getting out of work. While Kazuma doesn’t like fighting nearly as much as Goku, which most characters don’t, he does like eating tasty food, like the Saiyan. Both characters are also surrounded by side characters that are always worth a laugh, adding a ton of value to their prospective series.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student with extraordinary strength, who becomes intertwined with curses after ingesting a cursed object. Under the guidance of sorcerer Satoru Gojo, Yuji joins Tokyo Jujutsu High School to combat malevolent forces and navigate his new, perilous existence.

It’s hard to say ifJujutsu Kaisenvalues action or comedy more. Some episodes are downright hilarious, while others are brutal, bleak, and full of action.Jujutsu Kaisenmight be a lot darker thanDragon Ball Daima, but it’s fairly easy to seethe comparisons between the two. They’re both filled with action, they both have great animation, and both Goku and Itadori have great friends they can rely on when it matters most.

Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure (2012)

The fights in both series are core to their stories. Whether Goku is taking on a Tamagami in order to get a Dragon Ball, or Itadori is partnering withhis best friend Todoto take down Hanami, the end goal is still the same.Jujutsu Kaisenis also no stranger to comedy, as Itadori himself is always hilarious. When he’s first learning about his own abilities, he asks Gojo if he can eventually use Goku’s trademark Kamehameha in a great anime cameo that pays homage tothe legendary series by Toriyama.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is an action-adventure anime series based on the manga of the same name. The story spans multiple generations of the Joestar family, each member confronting supernatural foes through the power of “Stands,” spiritual manifestations of their fighting spirits. The series begins with Jonathan Joestar’s struggle against the villainous Dio Brando and evolves through the exploits of his descendants.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventureis a great comparison toDragon Ball Daimabecause both series star a group of peopleon a journeyto reclaim what was taken from them by an evildoer across the world, or inDaima’scase, across multiple worlds. Jotaro Kujo, like Goku, is a character who would rather punch first and ask questions later. Character-wise, he’s an anti-hero closer to Vegeta than he is to Goku, and that makesStardust Crusaderseven more interesting than it already is.

Steel Ball Run’s Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli in sepia tone.

It’s Here: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Just Dropped a First Look at Steel Ball Run’s English Launch

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s seventh part, Steel Ball Run, is finally getting an English release, and VIZ just shared a glimpse at its first volume.

WhileJoJo’stakes place on Earth, the Crusaders still have to go on an amazing journey to save Jotaro’s mother from Dio. The characters inDaimaare currently traveling across Demon Worlds in order to gather the Demon Worlds' Dragon Balls and restore themselves back to their adult forms. They’re bothfunny series with great fights, intriguing locations, and plenty more to offer.

BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense

Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense follows Kaede Honjou as she navigates a virtual reality MMO game. Seeking to avoid pain, she invests heavily in her character’s defense, surprisingly unlocking powerful abilities that enable her to embark on various in-game adventures with unique challenges.

Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defenseis most similar toDragon Ball Daimain how itprioritizes humor above all else. Both series rarely have serious moments. When they do, they’re still mixed with enough humor to keep the shows light-hearted and fun the entire time.Bofuristars Maple as she looks to learn about the new online video game everyone is playing. Instead of balancing her stats out like a normal player, she decides to put them all in the defense category, making her nearly unkillable.

Maple and Goku share a lot of similar traits. Neither is the smartest character around, but both are the first to jump into battle when their friends are around. Maple can be relatively nervous while playing her game, butshe’s never too scaredto fight for what she believes in, just like Goku.

Hunter x Hunter

In Hunter x Hunter, young Gon Freecss discovers his long-lost father is a legendary Hunter, an elite class of adventurer with the license to go anywhere or do almost anything. Determined to find him, Gon sets out to pass the Hunter Examination, a life-threatening challenge that draws hundreds of hopefuls seeking fortune, fame, and adventure. Along the way, Gon becomes friends with other candidates, including the vengeful Kurapika, the ambitious Leorio, and the enigmatic Killua. Together, they face a world filled with bizarre creatures, sinister criminals, and unpredictable adventures.

Hunter x Hunteris another story that featuresan incredible adventure. WhileDragon Ball Daimahas been focused on a singular adventure so far,Hunter x Hunterfeatured several incredible arcs that saw its main cast cross the globe, head into a video game, and so much more.Hunter x Hunteris a little more serious thanDaima, but Gon and the gang are known to have fun from time to time as well. Gon and Goku also share a lot in common.

Hunter x Hunter Creator Details Recent Health Scare As the Artist Comes Off Bedrest

Yoshihiro Togashi uses his knack for simple yet evocative writing to describe his hospitalization, as Hunter X Hunter enters its latest hiatus.

They’reboth stubborn, dense charactersmore than willing to fight. They care about their friends more than they care about themselves, and they can both eat and sleep at impressive levels.Dragon Ball Daimahas only been out for a handful of episodes, much less than the nearly 200 thatHunter x Hunterhas released, but if it reaches that level, Goku and his friends will probably go on the same number of adventures as Gon and his.

Dragon Ball

Goku, a young, powerful boy with a tail, spends his days hunting and living off the land. His life changes when he meets Bulma, a teen genius on a quest to collect seven magical Dragon Balls that summon a dragon capable of granting any wish. Together, they set off on an adventure filled with powerful martial arts battles, formidable foes, and unlikely alliances.

There isn’t a better comparison toDragon Ball Daimathanthe originalDragon Ballseries. WhileDragon Ball GTalso features Goku as a child, it doesn’t have the same light-hearted tone that the originalDragon Ballput forward.Dragon Ball GTwas dark, gritty, and serious. The originalDragon Ball,on the other hand, also featured Goku as a child (the one time in the series he wasn’t transformedintoa child that is) and all of his friends on an adventure to find the Dragon Balls.

Dragon Ball Daimais also about his friends as kid-Goku searches for the Dragon Balls. While his friends might have changed (except for Bulma), his intentions haven’t. Goku is stillthe same happy-go-lucky kidwho lovesfighting strong enemies, eating way too much food, and sleeping whenever he gets the chance. The only real difference is thatDragon Ball Daimafeatures great animation, a new world filled with interesting characters, and two amazing Saiyans who can reach not only the legendary Super Saiyan form, but Super Saiyan 3.

Dragon Ball DAIMA

Dragon Ball Daima sees Goku and his allies inexplicably shrunk into miniature forms, prompting a journey to the Demon Realm. This animated adventure, part of the Dragon Ball franchise, explores their mission to solve the mystery and restore their original statures. Released in October 2024.
