Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the open-world sequel to the web-slinger’s first game by Insomniac Games, is coming to PC late in January 2025. The game, which released on PS5 in 2023, follows Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they fight classic Spider-Man rouges like Kraven the Hunter and Venom. While the game left some stories open for more down the road, Insomniac Games has addressed whetherSpider-Man 2will get any story DLC.
The firstSpider-Mangame from Insomniac received numerous DLCs post-launch. Multiple characters and stories withinMarvel’s Spider-Man 2likewise seemed to be setting up DLC, particularly thestoryline involving Carnage. Because of this, many fans speculated over what would be in store for Peter Parker and Miles Morales whenSpider-Man 2DLC finally arrived.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Won’t Get Story DLC
No New Webs To Spin Beyond The Base Game
Unfortunately,Spider-Man 2isn’t getting any story DLC like the first game. As confirmed by Insomniac Games andpreviously reported by Screen Rant,Spider-Man 2will not get any new story content. Instead, the game got New Game Plus, which included a few new suits, colors, and photo features. It’s disappointing thatSpider-Man 2won’t get any new story DLC, especially since the first game releasedSpider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps,a small series of new stories that had a staggered release through October to December 2018.
Why There’s No DLC For Spider-Man 2
Good Ideas Are Often Saved For Sequels
This might be a little disappointing to fans who were hoping for more from the AAA title, but it’s possible that the developers behind the game tookany potential DLC ideas and decided they might be better suited for a sequel in the future. That type of story, where good DLC ideas were reworked into bigger standalone titles, is how games likeThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the KingdomandUncharted: The Lost Legacywere made.
Marvel’s Wolverine Should Avoid This One Major Pitfall
Not much is known about Marvel’s Wolverine, but it’s clear that a shared universe is something Insomniac Games should avoid for its next big release.
WhileSpider-Man 3hasn’t yet been confirmed by Insomniac, though there hasn’t beenmuch news from the company lately, it would be strange for the successful series to not continue with another sequel. It’s likely that the developers arefocusing on the upcomingMarvel’s Wolverine, and any newSpider-Mantitle will come much later. The focus onWolverinecould be another contributing factor as to whySpider-Man 2didn’t get any new story DLC.

Despite the disappointment, it’s unlikely that any DLC forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2would’ve been very exciting. The DLC for the first game,The City That Never Sleeps, didn’t add too much to the game besides an interesting plot that followed Yuri Watanabe, Spider-Man’s police contact in the main game, on her revenge plot against Hammerhead and the introduction of Black Cat as a full-fledged character involved in a few heists.
