Jurassic World Rebirthunveils new images, teasing a journey through the jungle and the major curveball. With scripts from the originalJurassic Parkwriter, David Koepp, the upcoming Gareth Edwards-helmed reboot stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis, Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, and aims to recapture the magic of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic.
New images unveiled byEntertainment Weeklyoffer a sneak peek of Bailey, Johansson, and Sylvian’s journey through the jungle, previewing the characters' intricate dynamics.Johansson’s Zora is a “special-ops, ex-CIA type"and a contractor who’s set to extract the DNA from monoliths alongside Duncan and Dr. Loomis, who is the captain of their team. He’s kind of like the Ahab of our movie. He’s out of his depth in terms of the military element of the mission. He’s very comfortable on digs and expeditions but not the life-and-death risks that Kincaid and Zora are getting into.
The curveball of the story is similar to the originalJurassic Park, wherea civilian familyhappens to be in the middle of a dangeroussituation. After receiving their mayday signal, Zora’s team is now responsible for transporting the Delgado family to safety while carrying out the rest of the mission. Obviously, it all goes wrong and becomes a situation that you enjoy watching as aJurassicfan. Once you’re on the adventure, the film doesn’t let go until the end credits. It’s Really More Of A Rebirth Than Reboot
Filmed in real forests in Southeast Asia,Jurassic World Rebirthhas gone the length to recapture the magic ofSpielberg’s cult classicthat started the franchise in the first place. The film uses less green screen and more real locations for a “back to basics” approach to filmmaking. The new images feature Johansson and Bailey inan environment reminiscent of the 1993 film. In the same interview, Edwards talked about how dangerous the forests were and the fact that he had to keep certain information from the cast:
I’m allowed to say this now that we’re on the other side of it, but we shot in rivers and these mangrove swamps. When we were scouting them, we saw poisonous water snakes, massive ones that we had to catch. We kept it quiet from the actors as they spent a whole day wading through the same area. And there were giant spiders that were poisonous and stuff on the edge of the trees. You just wouldn’t point them out if you saw them. Just keep going!
Theocean scenes took the production to Malta, where Spielberg went for the 1993 film. WithJurassic Parklargely revolving around an isolated island where the experiment takes place, the scenes were mainly filmed in Hawaii. WhileJurassic World Rebirthpays tributeto the original dinosaur classic, theGodzilladirector also added his unique take to the film by taking production to Thailand,which resembles a real Skull Island (from theGodzillafranchise) on Earth.
