Karate Kid: Legendsdirector Jonathan Entwistle has teased how Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han is connected to Mr. Miyagi and Daniel, hinting at their history. Thestory ofKarate Kid: Legendssees Mr. Han track down Daniel (Ralph Macchio), looking for his assistance in training a new martial arts prodigy, Li Fong (Ben Wang). The trailer hinted there was a connection between the original protagonist’s master and Chan’s character, something that will bring the pair together and explain how everything in the franchise is connected. For now, however, those connections remain unclear.

But, speaking withEntertainment Weekly,Entwistle did reveala connection between Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi’s family, which will be further explored inKarate Kid: Legends. The director explained how both masters are connected to Daniel, also hinting there’s already an established connection within the movies for eagle-eyed viewers. Check out what Entwistle had to say below:

Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid and Jackie Chan as Mr. Han in Karate Kid Legends

Without giving too much away, I can say that Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi are the connection to Daniel. The Han family and the Miyagi family are connected all the way back to the old times. And there is a mention of this within the Karate Kid movie canon for those people who want to go looking for it.

What Mr. Miyagi & Mr. Han’s Connection Means For Karate Kid: Legends

The Martial Arts Universe Is Growing Closer Together

It’s currently unclear what connection Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi had, but given his central role on thecast ofKarate Kid: Legendsalongside Daniel, their past will likely be clarified rather early into the runtime. The series' original karate master has a long history with China, though, since his ancestor, Shimpo Miyagi, ended up landing in the country by accident in 1625. It’s claimed he returned to Okinawa with a family and karate skills, which were later passed down generation to generation, until the events of the movies. However, one of his connections to China is much more recent.

Karate Kid: Legends Theory Reveals How Mr. Miyagi & Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han Are Connected

A plausible Karate Kid: Legends theory might have already explained the real reason why Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han recognizes Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi.

InCobra Kaiseason 6part 1, the group discovers a hidden box in Mr. Miyagi’s house, revealing he had a secret past as a boxer, and that he killed someone during the Sekai Tekai tournament. They also learn he was in China at one point, likely continuing his training, something that could have potentially resulted in him crossing paths with someone in the Han family. Since Entwistle said their lineages were connected somehow, it’s possible the original master met his family at some point, perhaps being the catalyst for Chan’s character becoming such a skilled martial artist.

Our Take On How Karate Kid: Legends Will Connect Mr. Miyagi & Mr. Han

There Are Ways Both Characters Could Have Known Each Other

Since both masters could have been in the same place geographically decades earlier, it would be easy forKarate Kid: Legendsto find a connection between their legacies. However, since both of their families appear connected based on the director’s wording,it could be thatMr. Han is somehow related to Mr. Miyagi, beyond just learning karate from his family’s teachings. For now, though, that connection has yet to be forged, but could use details from the original movie andCobra Kaito further flesh it out.
