What The Release Date Means For Lilo & Stitch

The Live-Action Remake Is Facing Some Hefty Box Office Competition

Though the confirmation that the movie has finally set a release date is sure to come as exciting for those who were thrilled by its first footage out of D23,the live-actionLilo & Stitchremake’s release comes with the danger of a packed box office. As is typically the case for any year, Summer 2025 is packed to the brim with blockbuster releases, ranging from the Scarlett Johansson-ledJurassic World Rebirthto James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot starter,Superman.

May 2025, in particular, is a fairly busy month leading into the rest of the summer. In addition to the live-actionLilo & Stitchremake,Marvel will be looking to kickDisney’s summer off right withThunderbolts*’s releasethree weeks prior, with the rest of the month seeing mostly original releases, save forMission: Impossible 8the same weekend asStitchandKarate Kid Legendsthe week after. Check out the current calendar of May 2025 release dates below:

With the movie coming out at the end of May, the live-actionLilo & Stitchremake will also have to face off against early June 2025 releases. As of now, the first movie it will have to compete with at the box office is that ofFrom the World of John Wick: Ballerina, though its adult demographic could prove beneficial for the more family friendly audiences looking for something to watch. The following week, though, will seethe dual releases of Pixar’sElioandfellow live-action remakeHow to Train Your Dragon, making for the most heated competition forStitchwith family viewers.

Our Take On Lilo & Stitch’s Release Date

The Movie’s Marketing Will Be Its Savior Or Downfall

Box office competitions are certainly not new to the world of film, and the divide between younger and older moviegoers has never impacted a family movie’s chances, as evidenced by the continued success of theDespicable MeandInside Outmovies. Even still, I think the marketing will be the key toLilo & Stitch’s potential success, as the consensus about live-action Disney remakes is still that they’re unnecessary. As such, if the trailers don’t prove why the new film should be seen, viewers who grew up with the film likely won’t even turn up for a morbidly curious watch.
