Reacherstar Olivier Richters teases an epic fight scene between Paulie and Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) in the season 3 finale. Based on Lee Child’s novelPersuader,Reacherseason 3’s storyplaces Ritchson’s character in a criminal enterprise as heattempts to rescue an undercover DEA informant, where he secures an inside job led by business tycoon Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall), protected by the former U.S. soldier Paulie.
In an interview withScreenRant, Richters sheds some light on the upcoming fight between Paulie and Ritchson’s titular character. The actor recalled thesequence involving six fighting areas, teasing that it is"90% realistic," with “a strong buildup.“He further explained that the preparation behind filming took him “three to four months” just to train just to make it safe, and shared that he had to overcome one of his fears for the psychologically and physically demanding scene. Yeah, so what I think I can [say] is that there are a lot of different fighting areas–if I count correctly, six of them–which makes the fight very diverse. It’s not just fist fighting. The areas are different and we have to adjust to the areas we end up in.
What I also love about the fight is that 10 percent is unrealistic, as in, “Okay, can a human survive that?” but you’re like, “Of course you can.” You want the fight to continue. There’s some point that we just don’t die, and that’s why the fight can continue so long. It’s super entertaining and 90% realistic. So, that’s what I love.
Also the preparation that went into this was, for me, three to four months of four hours a day of stunt training to make it as safe as possible during all the choreography. [I had to] overcome my fear of water because there are water scenes [in] one of the six areas. I really hope people will love it because the time and money and effort spent [on] it is insane, and it’s such a strong buildup. 240 countries are going to view it. I dunno, I think the internet is going to explode after the release of this episode next week.
