Warning: SPOILERS forMatlockseason 1, episode 15, “Game Face.“From the beginning ofMatlock, there have been three main suspects in the Wellbrexa case. Just as Matty thought that it was Senior, that theory was turned on its head as Senior was out of the country at the time of signing the document. In some recentMatlockseason 1updates, it looked like Olympia was the one to forge Senior’s signature, but recent filming updates hint that Jason Ritter’s Julian may be the one behind it all.
Ritter is joining a DC series in a recurring role, which is sure to diminish his availability in season 2 of theMatlockreboot. After all, an actor cannot be in two places at once, so the two projects will need to work together to make their filming schedules work. The easiest way to do that is to cut Ritter’s appearance inMatlockseason 2down, which could suggest something major coming in the first season, and in a way, it spoils the story.

Jason Ritter Joins DC’s Lanterns Project As A Recurring Character
Jason Ritter Will Play Billy Macon In DC’s Lanterns
Deadlineannounced that Ritter has landed a new project, joining theDC’s Lanternsin a recurring role. He will play Billy Macon, who likes to do his father’s bidding, but it’s not clear just how many episodes in the eight-episode series he will appear in. Obviously, this could set limitations on his presence inMatlock’ssecond season.
Currently, there is no word that he is stepping down as a series regular on the CBS series.

There are ways that the schedules can work asDC’s Legendsis currently in production andMatlockseason 2 won’t start production until summer 2025, but some projects can overlap. The filming clashes are likely to affect closer to the start of season 2 rather than the whole of the season, which hints at a way the storyline could need to go at the end ofMatlockseason 1. Currently, there is no word that he is stepping down as a series regular on the CBS series.
Ritter’s New Role Could Mean Diminished Time In Matlock Season 2
Julian Is Likely The Wellbrexa Villain
With a new project, Ritter can’t be at two filming studios at once. It suggests that he’ll have to reduce his screen time inMatlockseason 2, and the easiest way to do that isto have him imprisoned while he is waiting for a trial date. Forging Senior’s signature is an offense, and it will bring up questions of what else he has done illegally to push through his own agenda. InMatlockseason 1, episode 15, we learned that Jacobson Moore didn’t shred the document that ties someone to the Wellbrexa case, and this could be exactly what Matty and Olympia, who is thecurrentMatlocksuspect, need to put Julian away.
I’m Still Not Convinced About Olympia’s Villainy Despite Matlock Episode 14’s Big Reveal
Despite a major reveal about Olympia in Matlock episode 14, there’s still plenty of reason not to assume her involvement with Wellbrexa just yet.
By putting Julian in jail, he doesn’t need to interact with people in the law firm on a daily basis. There wouldn’t be the need for people to share where he is when he’s not in the office, which is only believable for a handful of episodes. As filming ofDC’s Lanternswill likely only affect the start of the season, theMatlockwriters can then work a way to involve Julian either from inside prison or set up an entire storyline of his trial when he is available for more screen time. The downside is that thefilming updates seem to have spoiled the twists and turns of the end ofMatlockseason 1.
