ABC’s newest procedural based on the 2021 French television series,HPI, is spearheaded byIt’s Sunny In Philadelphia star, Kaitlin Olson, who also produces the project. Itmarks the small screen return of Drew Goddard fromBad Times at the El RoyaleandCabin in the Woodsfame. As a police procedural, Morgan, a high-potential individual, teams up with the LAPD to solve crimes in the city. Beyond that, however,High Potentialis also subtly developing a romantic plot involving its main lead.
Daniel Sunjata talks toScreen Rantabout the love triangle brewing inHigh Potential, with Morgan at the center.Tom has clearly expressed his interestin her, and while Karadec hasn’t, it’s no secret that the LAPD quasi-partners have great chemistry. Despite the competition, Sunjata is thrilled to have Pardo around, and says that Tom’s role only makes Morgan’s story exciting in High Potential. Read his full quote below:

First of all, let me say, JD Pardo is amazing. He is so talented. He brings so much to the show, and then when I saw his handsome face walk on set, I was like, “Wait a second, guys. We don’t need guys that are this good-looking on the show. I’m 72 years old here, let’s cast a halo around Karadec.” [Laughs] But he’s amazing, and we actually don’t really share any scenes together.
There are scenes that our characters share with Morgan, but usually, I’m at the beginning of one of those scenes, and then JD comes at the end. Or JD is in the beginning of the scene, and Karadec comes in at the end. I think that that is part of setting the tension of Morgan’s got many, many options. There are many men that are interested in her and that she might be interested in. I think it keeps the audience guessing. But what JD brings to the show in terms of his talent, and his experience, and his amazing bone structure cannot be overestimated. He’s amazing.

How Tom’s Involvement Makes High Potential Better
It Makes Morgan & Karadec’s Will-They/Won’t-They Dynamic More Exciting
Pardo only joined inHigh Potentialepisode 6 with very little fanfare prior to his appearance. Playing theprecinct’s new janitor, Tom, he approached Morgan about smudging the glass doors with her chips residue-covered fingers. The pair talked again towards the end of the episode, making it clear that there’s a mutual attraction between them. InHigh Potentialepisode 7, Tom and Morgan’s relationship is seemingly becoming deeper. While this effectively hinders hopes for Karadec to be in a relationship with his consultant, the situation actually sets up a more interesting future for the show.
Tom could be that third party that slows down this process and givesHigh Potentialtime to further milk Morgan and Karadec’s romance.
Based on what has happened inHigh Potentialthus far, it’s clear that they are setting up awill-they/won’t-they relationship for Morgan and Karadec. While that trope is fun in itself, it could get frustrating without any kind of external factor that drives the plot, other than the characters simply not acting on their feelings. Tom could be that third party that slows down this process and givesHigh Potentialtime to further milk Morgan and Karadec’s romance. It also doesn’t hurt that he and Morgan are fun to watch together.
Our Take On Who Morgan Should Be In High Potential
Morgan & Karadec Are A Better Pairing
TheHigh Potentialfall finale leaves the pair closer than ever, and unless something changes during the break, then it’s safe to say that the show will continue to develop their burgeoning affair. However, this doesn’t mean that Karadec is no longer in the picture. Assuming thatHigh Potentialgets renewed for season 2, there would be plenty of time for him and Morgan to slowly transition from co-workers to lovers. If ABC is planning on following what happens inHPI, then it’s safe to say that it’s only a matter of time before Morgan and Karadec begin dating.
