Now that Mary Jane has been announced as the new host for the Venom symbiote, Marvel is pulling out all the stops in showing off its most unusual “couple”, and they’ve even gotten married in an unexpected turn of events.

AIPT Comicshas unveiled a first look at a new variant cover forAll-New Venom#7 by Al Ewing and Carlos Gómez.The cover, drawn by artist David Baldeón, depicts Mary Jane marrying none other than Venom.In the background, various characters fromAll-New Venomwatch in horror. Mary Jane and Venom are certainly anunlikely couple, and this cover art elevates that dynamic to a wacky new level as the two of them officially tie the knot, with Spider-Man’s role as MJ’s husband getting stolen by one of his classic foes.

The variant cover forAll-New Venom#7 references the cover of 1987’sThe Amazing Spider-Man Annual#21, which set the stage for the issue in whichPeter Parker and Mary Jane Watsoncelebrated their own wedding. As pleasant of an occasion as that initial wedding was, it’s since been undone thanks to the controversialOne More Daystory, and Mary Jane has finally moved on to bigger things by ditching Spider-Man for Venom. Peter’s “Parker luck” has resulted in him being alone, whereas Mary Jane is reliving her wedding with someone that no reader would have expected her to marry.

18 Years Later, It’s Never Been Clearer How One More Day Broke Spider-Man

It hasn’t even been a full two decades since Marvel released “One More Day” and Spider-Man still isn’t the only character to be ruined by the story.

Of course, it should be clarified thatMary Jane and Venomaren’t getting married in the traditional sense, regardless of what this new variant cover may convey. Instead, they’ve bonded as host and symbiote, with the matrimonial imagery serving as a metaphor for their newfound attachment to one another.For better and for worse, Mary Jane and Venom are stuck together for the time being, which has been hilariously compared to the union that comes from marriage.Spider-Man’s former wifehas become a mainstay in Venom lore for the time being, as she leaves his story to establish her own.
