What The New Mufasa Trailer Means

The Lion King Connections Deepen

While it was already known that young Zazu and Rafiki would be part of theMufasa: The Lion Kingcastin some capacity, this trailerhighlights how integral they will be to the main storyline of the prequel movie. In addition to being a major part of the adventure in his capacity as Sarabi’s scout, it seems that Zazu will occupy the same comic relief position that he did in the original movie.

InThe Lion King(2019), the older Zazu was voiced by John Oliver, who is not currently set to reprise the role inMufasa.

The newMufasa: The Lion Kingtraileralso explores young Rafiki in more depth. While he still holds the etherial spiritual power of his older self, the iconic character shows off a much wackier sidethat he seems to have grown out of in the intervening years. It seems that he may not yet fully be in control of himself, as he is described as a “hallucinating baboon” and is shown to be easily distracted.

Our Take On The New Mufasa Trailer

The Lion King Movie Could Be A Huge Hit

As the newMufasa: The Lion Kingshows, the movie is working to include as many iconic characters from the original as possible by featuring both timelines. While it remains to be seen how it performs, it seems like these ample connections will help it appeal to the same broad audience as the previous installment, even though it explores a part of the timeline that has never been brought to the big screen before. It may not become a record-breaking hit at the same level, but it has the potential to be a chart-topper nevertheless.
