Mina’s Quirk Finally Receives the Treatment it Deserves

The Color Horikoshi Imagined for the Acid Has Been Added to the Series

Mina Ashido is undoubtedly one of the most unique students of U.A. High. Her bubbly personality, friendly demeanor, and otherworldly appearance make it difficult for fans of theMy Hero Academiafranchise to forget her. While the most obvious aspect of her Quirk, Acid Generation, is the pink tone her skin and hair possess, as well as her antennae, this ability is so much more than just a distinctive look. Her main strength isthe power to secrete any kind of acid through her skin, from weak water-like fluid to the most corrosive substances imaginable.

While notthe most powerful member of Class 1-A, Mina has always been known to possess the heart and bravery of a true hero, even being one of Kirishima’s main inspirations. Horikoshi paid a great deal of attention to Mina when creating her. While the anime series did an amazing job translating her from the manga to the show, they forgot one of her character’s most fundamental aspects. Unlike other acids, the material created by Ashido was supposed to be purple-pink.

This detail was not present in the first 6 seasons of theMy Hero Academiaanime adaptation, as her acid was always depicted as a grey liquid. After many years without correcting this issue, episode 156 of the show introduced Mina’s original acid color, finally depicting it with its distinctive pink tone. Horikoshi celebrated this change by publishing a stunning piece of art depicting Mina surrounded by her acid. The manga creator made sure to depict the material as he first imagined it, giving fans an official look at what Ashido’s power looks like in his mind.

Horikoshi Also Celebrated the Inspiration Behind Acid Man

The Creator Explained The Origins Of This Powerful Attack

After her arduous training as a student of Class 1-A, Mina was able to evolve her Quirk and accomplish much more than simply using her acid as a projectile. During most fights, she can be seen utilizing the material to quickly traverse the battlefield or scale buildings. Yet, the most impressive use of her Acid Generation ability has to be her ultimate move, Acid Man. This unique attack sees Ashido creating a massive amount of corrosive liquid around her, which takes the form of a suit.

Thanks to this ability, Mina can incapacitate multiple opponents at once, while also granting her the ability to fight hand-to-hand against more resilient enemies. This already outstanding ability became much more powerful in episode 156, with Mina awakening her Quirk. To save Mount Lady from the imposing Gigantomachia, Ashido pushes her Quirk past her limits to use Acid Man from a distance, gravely injuring the virtually invulnerable giant. Horikoshi wanted to celebrate such an achievement by revealing the inspiration behind this move. He explained that Mina’s powerful attackwas named in honor of one of his favorite bands, ACIDMAN.

This group, led by Ohki Nobuo, is a famous Japanese band mostly known for playing rock. They began their career in 1997 and have continued to create music ever since. Horikoshi thanked them for their amazing work, giving them full credit for the name of Ashido’s iconic attack. The artist explained that he had been a fan of their music since he was still in school and wanted to pay homage to their music in his manga.

Mina’s ultimate move is undoubtedly one ofMy Hero Academia’s most impressive attacks. It is incredible to see her not only being recognized as the fierce fighter she is in episode 156 but also learning that her Quirk has been given its original color. The fact that fans know what inspired Horikoshi to name such an iconic move makes this moment much more amazing.
