TheMy So-Called Lifeseries creator is likely reuniting with Claire Danes for a new series calledThe Applebaum Curse.Danes debuted as 15-year-old Angela Chasein the 1994 series, where she played a teenager plagued by the typical issues of her formative years. The1990s serieswas created by Winnie Holzman and ran for a single 19-episode season. My So-Called Lifewas well-reviewed and was nominated for four Emmy Awards.

Holzman will be a writer, executive producer, and showrunner. When Holzman was asking about whether she would consider aMy So-Called Lifereboot, she said the following:

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Ready Player One imagery

It’s interesting that you’re asking me that. I am writing something that I’m hoping to do with Claire. It’s not a reboot in the traditional sense, but I think Claire Danes and I back together would be a kind of version of that.

It’s a completely different story. But we’re hopeful that we’re gonna work together again. I’m writing it now, and it’s hopefully gonna be at HBO, so we’ll see. I have to cross my fingers! You never know what’s gonna happen, but Claire would love to do this with me, so I’m excited.

What This Means For The My So-Called Life Alums

The Applebaum Curse Would See Danes In A More Mature Role

Holzman’s statement makes it clear thatThe Applebaum Curseis not fully confirmed. Danes being on board is certainly promising, but it looks like HBO needs to take a few more steps before formally greenlighting the series. Even with its short run,My So-Called Lifewas considered a standout in thecoming-of-age genre, so it would be great to see its main team get back together.

10 Best Coming-Of-Age Sci-Fi Movies Ever Made

Sci-fi movies often feature more mature protagonists and explore futuristic stories, but some coming-of-age stories in the genre stand out.

The Applebaum Cursewould also bea chance for Danes to work in a more mature role under Holzman’s guidance. Like her breakout character, Danes was only 15 when she starred inMy So-Called Life. At 45 years old now, she would most likely be playing a mother as part ofThe Applebaum Curse’s leading dysfunctional family. If the show is some “version of” aMy So-Called Lifereunion, it would be interesting to see the team take on a similarly toned project with Danes in a whole different role.
