At the beginning of Fall,Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga ended with the release of chapter 271, leaving fans with a mix of emotions and a bittersweet aftertaste after not announcing a sequel to the series. Still, with a conclusion that left many storylines open to explore, it’s only natural for fans to speculate about a possible continuation, especially sinceJujutsu Kaisen’s manga keeps introducing new characters even after its ending.

Although many fans expected a sequel to the series, as with other popular franchises such asNaruto,Chainsaw Man,andFairy Tail, its creator, Gege Akutami, didn’t offer details about a possible second part, leaving fans uncertain if the story will ever be expanded. However, the author subtly shows that he is still willing to keep developing the story by sharing Kaisen’s universe with the release of volume 28 of the manga, which featuresan illustration that finally reveals one ofthe strongest sorcererswho was forgotten and didn’t appear in the main story, Usami.

Usami, One of the Strongest Grade 1 Sorcerers Didn’t Officially Appear in the Story

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Author Keeps Sharing the Lore of the Series

Usami’s existence was introduced by Kusakabe in a flashback in chapter 253, where he was asked about the strongest grade 1 sorcerer. Kusakabe downplayed himself and declared the grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer’s top position probably belonged to someone other than him and Usami. But given that Kusakabe is considered the best grade 1 by the other characters, and he puts Usami on the same level as himself, he should be a powerful sorcerer. Also, although nothing is known about his abilities or cursed techniques, since he is a grade 1, he must be as strong as Nanami, Todo, or Mei Mei.

While there are still many mysteries surrounding the character, an illustration in Volume 28 disclosed the sorcerer’s appearance along with four more illustrations where Gojo, Mei Mei, Miguel, and Kusakabe were asked about Usami. Gojo and Mei Mei show disgust at Usami, and Miguel doesn’t know him, but Kusakabe shares more info about the mysterious character. Kusakabe shares that Usami only listens to orders from above and does what he is told, so he doesn’t get along well with Gojo and Mei Mei. Also, a message from Akutami states that Usami didn’t have an appearance scheduled in the story.

Gojo and Mei Mei dislike could explain why the sorcerers didn’t seek Usami’s help during the Shinjuku Showdown, but the fact that the author introduces him less than 20 chapters before the manga’s ending and also dedicates several extra pages inJujutsu KaisenVolume 28 to him could mean that he had plans for the character to show up in the final arc, but his storyline was ultimately discarded. Usami Unexplored Character Could Create a Storyline for aJujutsu KaisenSequel or a Spin-off Series

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ending Already Laid the Groundwork for a Continuation

Because of his connection to the higher-ups,Usami has the potential to be opposed to the ideals of the main charactersand maybe even become an antagonist for a possible sequel of the manga or spin-off series focused on the previous generation of jujutsu sorcerers. Also, even though there is currently no information about a sequel,Jujutsu Kaisencould follow the example of other franchises where a discarded plot for the manga ending was used instead in a movie, like what happened withMy Hero Academia Movie: Heroes Rising.

Even thoughJujutsu Kaisenwrapped up its main conflicts,Usami not making his debut in the story isn’t the only mystery left unresolved in the series, like how Yuji’s domain expansion works and what will happen with the barrier in the future. Additionally, a sequel could improve the overall experience of fans, who felt the story fell through in its last stage. Nevertheless, even if only time will tellifJujutsu Kaisenwill have a continuation, the release of volumes 29 and 30 of the manga are still pending, so the author could continue to surprise fans with new revelations.
