Indie developers, such as those behind the cozy dinosaur sanctuary gamePaleo Pines, can struggle with the financial requirements of making a game, and it appears the Italic Pig team needs the fans' help to stay afloat. Even after a game is made, there can be many costs involved with post-launch support, not to mention DLCs and added content. Without having a production partner to assist, this can lead to the shutting down of companies and games even when they have a strong fanbase and plans for what they may want to do in the future.
Earlier today, the team behindPaleo Pinestook to X (formerly known as Twitter) toplead for the assistance of the gaming community. In their post, they explained how, despite their DLCs and best efforts, financial reserves are running out.

Paleo Pines, afarming and life simulation game featuring cuddly dinosaurs, has been working hard since its release in June 2023 to consistently improve the quality of their game. Over the past year, devs of the game have offered updated content, DLCs, and even merchandise. Its dedicated fanbase has flooded the internet with crocheted dinos, fan art, and more, but it still may not be enough.

“For the better part of this year we’ve been working behind the scenes to create a pln for the next iteration ofPaleo Pines, filled with stunning new regions, quirky new NPCs, plenty more adorable dinosaurs, plus eggs, babies and -yes- multiplayer. The job after launch seemed simple - listen to our community, provide a roadmap full of updates and DLC to ensure that our players can continue to enjoy the existing world… and double-down on that enjoyment with the plan for bigger, better, shinierPaleo Pinesfor you to enjoy with friends and family.”
The game isn’t the only one in jeopardy if this development team shuts its doors either. They add in their post that there are several projects of all scales for PC, console, and mobile that have been in the works.
Our Take On The Indie Game Industry Losing Support
Publishing And Investment Opportunities Drying Up Could Have Negative Impacts On The Community
Sadly, this situation isn’t a one-off occurrence. ThePaleo Pinesteam states that they have been searching for a production partner to assist them, and added that"This isn’t happening just to us. It seems the whole indie game scene is facing a sudden drying up of publishing and investment opportunities.“If this trend continues and fewer indie devs are able to receive the support that they need, the gaming community as a whole will suffer from the lack of creativity and unique titles that indies can provide.

While thePaleo Pinesteam will hopefully be able to find a production partner or investor soon, before their lights are shut off, there are still ways for the community to support the game, and others like it. Most indie developers can find themselves in tight spots, and it is important for the video game community to support these smaller teams, such as those behindPaleo Pineswhenever, and however, possible.
Paleo Pinesis available for purchase in both physical and digital formats for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC.
