One Piecedelivered one of its best episodes yet with episode #1122, and with the anime finally set to come off of its hiatus, it’s an especially great lead-in to episode #1123 and #1124. Episode #1122 excelled on all fronts, whether it was animation or drama, and there was no better point for the interlude from Egghead to end and for the anime to go on its lengthy hiatus.
One Pieceepisode #1122 continued whereOne Pieceepisode #1121left off with Avalo Pizarro about to destroy the Marines with the power of his Isle-Isle Fruit. Koby fell into a panic as it seemed like they were all doomed, but fortunately, the encouraging words from Garp were enough to push Koby to keep fighting to protect everyone. What followed was a beautiful sequence of pure spectacle, and it’s sure to have an even better follow-up in episode #1123 and beyond.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1122?
Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Yasunori Koyama
One Pieceepisode #1122, “The Last Lesson! Impact Inherited,” opened with a flashback of Koby and other Marine recruits receiving a lesson from Garp. Garp asked them what to do if they had to choose between saving a baby and an old man, to which Koby assumed the right choice was sacrificing yourself to save both. Garp, however, said that the right choice was to abandon the old man and save the baby, and while he was admonished by his peers,Garp framed the lesson as a metaphor for how they always needed to prioritize the future of the Marines.
Back in the present, Garp told Koby, Helmeppo, and Grus that he would give them an opening to deal with Pizarro’s attack and protect the Marines and civilians. Sure enough, Garp used whatever power he had left to deal a massive blow to Pizarro, giving Koby’s group ample time to scale his arm. With Pizarro distracted and Helmeppo holding off other pirates,Koby gathered up all his strength and destroyed Pizarro’s arm with a powerful Haki-infused punch, with Grus then using his powers to protect everyone from falling debris.

Koby, Helmeppo, and Grus returned to the ship to the sound of everyone singing Koby’s praises, and the plan then became to pick up Garp and leave. However, Garp called them and told them to leave him, and with things as bad as they were, they had no choice but to comply. Garp laughed as he called Koby and everyone else the future of the Marines, and the episode ended with the narration saying thatthe world would be shocked by the stories of Garp being captured by the Blackbeard Pirates and Luffy allegedly taking people hostage at Egghead Island.
One Piece’s Anime Perfectly Highlights Koby’s Growth & Power
Koby Is Finally Getting The Respect He Deserves
Koby was the star ofOne Pieceepisode #1122, and it did a perfect job of putting him in the spotlight. Episode #1122 and the entire storyline with Pirate Island, in general, was all about building up Koby’s triumphant moment of being the hero, and it had an amazing payoff inKoby’s Honesty Impact being an even bigger spectacle than it was in the manga. The anime did an even better job of highlighting how powerful Koby had become, and overall, it was great to see.
More than physical power, though, episode #1122 did a great job of showing how much Koby had grown as a person. Episode #1122 did a lot to remind Koby of how much of a weakling he used to be, and thanks to the reveal of Koby doing Garp and Kuzan’s battleship bags training leading into his Honesty Impact,One Pieceepisode #1122 perfectly satisfied Koby’s arc of becoming a strong Marine after over 20 years. There’s no doubt that Koby will be a major player in the final saga, and episode #1122 showed why that makes sense on all fronts.

One Piece’s Hiatus Couldn’t Have Been Handled Better
TheOne Pieceanimesuddenly going on break was a major surprise, but between some incredible storytelling surrounding Garp and Koby and even greater visuals and direction that are easily among the anime’s best,One Pieceepisode #1122 was the perfect episode for the anime to leave on before its hiatus, as its intense highs, combined with all the recent dramatic shifts, make it a perfect stopping point. There couldn’t have been a better way forOne Pieceto conclude its interlude from Egghead, and whatever episode #1123 and beyond do will be more than worth the wait.
