What Riordan’s Announcement Means For Percy Jackson Season 2

The Next Season Is Coming This Year

The next season should be coming surprisingly quickly. Season 1 was greenlit in January 2022, filming began on June 26, 2025, and it ended on June 18, 2025. The release date, however, did not come until August 07, 2025, indicating a long post-production cycle. IfPercy Jacksonseason 2 follows a similar schedule, thenew episodes may not be released until December 2025. Season 2 was renewed in February 2024, so there has only been about a year to write, cast, and film for the upcoming episodes.

Why Percy Jackson 3 Didn’t Happen (But A TV Reboot Is)

Percy Jackson 3 didn’t become a reality for several key reasons, but it’s the perfect time for Disney+ to properly adapt the books with a TV show.

BecauseDisney has not yet greenlit season 3, it is likely that it will also have a two-year production cycle. Writing can take place at the same time as filming, but it would not be the only major delay since the editing and visual development process are lengthy. This is an extremely CGI-heavy show, which means that VFX artists will spend the next few months working diligently to create believable battles. Water is especially difficult to animate, so aSea of Monstersadaptationwill, understandably, take ample time.

Our Take On Percy Jackson Season 2’s Production Announcement

It Is Already An Amazing Step

While this is certainly not a release announcement, a production wrap is always an exciting step. Post-production can now begin in earnest, as editors, VFX artists, and Riordan work together to match the vision of showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz. With one major phase finished,Percy Jackson & the Olympiansseason 2 is now tangibly closer to meeting its anticipated release window. It may not be a trailer release, but it is the next best thing forDisney’s most-watched show in 2024.
